HOW TRUE IS YOUR LOVE?

Main Text: 1 Corinthians 13:4–8
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud… It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
— 1 Corinthians 13:4, 7

It is easy to love when everything is going well. It is easy to love when there are no problems, no disappointments, and no challenges. But what happens when difficulties come?

That is when love is truly tested. Because when Jesus looks into our hearts, what will He find? A love that remains even in difficult times, or a feeling that fades when things become hard?

let us ask ourselves: How true is your love?

“HOW TRUE IS YOUR LOVE?”

1. TRUE LOVE GIVES CHANCES

📖 Luke 17:3–4
“If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

“How many chances has God already given me?” If God has been patient with us, shouldn't His love teach us to become patient with others? True love gives chances—not because the person deserves unlimited chances, but because love believes that change is possible.

2. TRUE LOVE REFUSES TO GIVE UP

📖 1 Corinthians 13:7
“It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

The word perseveres means to continue, to endure, to remain steadfast even when things become difficult. That is what makes love different from a temporary feeling.

So when love becomes difficult, ask yourself: Am I loving because it is convenient, or am I loving because it is a commitment?

Because true love does not give up simply because things became hard.

3. TRUE LOVE CHOOSES TO STAY

📖 Ruth 1:16
“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
Ruth had every reason to leave.
Naomi told her to go back.
She had nothing to gain by staying.

This shows us something powerful:
Love is a choice. Sometimes we think love means feeling strongly about someone.
But biblical love is deeper than emotion.
There will be days when you don't feel like staying. There will be moments when you
don't feel like forgiving.

You refuse to give up because you love.
You choose to stay because you love.
And this is exactly what we see in God's love for us.

CONCLUSION
So now, let us return to the question:
HOW TRUE IS YOUR LOVE?
Do you give chances?
Do you refuse to give up?
Do you choose to stay?

Because anybody can say, “I love you.” But when the situation becomes difficult—
that's when love is tested.

When forgiveness is difficult, will you still love? When patience is difficult, will you still love? When staying is difficult, will you still love?

1 Corinthians 13:8 says:
“Love never fails.”
So may our love be more than words.
May our love give chances.
May our love refuse to give up.
May our love choose to stay.
And most importantly—

May the way we love others reflect the love that God has already shown us.
“You give chances because you love.
You refuse to give up because you love.
You choose to stay because you love.”

But the question remains:
HOW TRUE IS YOUR LOVE?

Title:When God Allows you to be tested
Main Text: Genesis 39–41

Your testing season does not mean that God has abandoned you.

Sometimes God allows the test because He is preparing you for the purpose He has prepared for you.

❤️1. REMAIN FAITHFUL

PAGPABILIN NGA MATINUD-ANON — BISAN DILI NIMO MASABTAN

📖 Genesis 39:2–3

> “Ug ang Ginoo nag-uban kang Jose…”

Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold as a slave, and brought to Egypt.

💡 LESSON — LEKSYON

You don't have to understand God's plan to remain faithful to God.

Pray anyway. — Padayon sa pag-ampo.

Serve anyway. — Padayon sa pag-alagad.

Obey anyway. — Padayon sa pagsunod.

Attend church anyway. — Padayon sa pagtambong sa iglesia.

Protect your testimony. — Padayon sa pagpreserbar sa imong maayong testimony.

Trust God anyway. — Padayon sa pagsalig sa Diyos.

⚠️ REBUKE — PAGBADLONG

Ayaw tugoti nga ang usa ka dili maayong kasinatian makahimo og dili maayong kinaiya diha kanimo.

Ayaw ingna:

> “Because I was hurt, I will stop serving God.”

> “Because I was betrayed, I will no longer trust God.”

> “Because things didn't happen the way I expected, I will walk away.”

🔥 REMEMBER:

Your situation may change, but your faithfulness must remain.

Ang imong kahimtang mahimong mausab, apan ang imong pagkamatinud-anon kinahanglan magpabilin.

---

❤️2. REFUSE TO COMPROMISE

AYAW PAGKOMPROMISO — BISAN WALAY NAKAKITA

📖 Genesis 39:7–12

— Genesis 39:9

Joseph understood something important:

Even when nobody sees you, God sees you.

Bisan walay tawo nga nakakita, ang Diyos nakakita.

---

💡 LESSON — LEKSYON

Testing does not only reveal what you know; it reveals what is in your heart.

Character over comfort.
Kabanal-an kaysa comfort.

Holiness over temporary pleasure.
Pagkabalaan kaysa temporaryong kalipay.

Obedience over opportunity.
Pagsunod kaysa oportunidad.

God's approval over people's approval.
Pag-uyon sa Diyos kaysa pag-uyon sa tawo.

---

🎯 APPLICATION — APLIKASYON

Kung ikaw gitintal:

Don't compromise your principles.
Ayaw ikompromiso ang imong prinsipyo.

Don't sell your holiness for temporary pleasure.

Don't sin because you feel forgotten.

Don't allow loneliness to lower your standards.

Don't use your pain as an excuse to disobey God.

🔥 REMEMBER:

> “God sees what people cannot see.”

---

⚠️ REBUKE — PAGBADLONG

Your pain is not a license to sin.

🔥 YOUR TEST IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR SIN.

Your test is an opportunity to prove your faithfulness.

---

❤️3. TRUST GOD'S PROCESS

SALIGI ANG PROSESO SA DIYOS — BISAN MADUGAY

📖 Genesis 40–41

Si Joseph miagi sa:

PIT → POTIPHAR'S HOUSE → PRISON → PALACE

📖 Genesis 50:20

> “Kamo naghunahuna og daotan batok kanako, apan ang Diyos nagpasabot niini alang sa kaayohan.”

Sure. Here is a Cebuano-English version, keeping the strong sermon language and making the English phrases natural and impactful.

❤️4. KEEP YOUR ATTITUDE RIGHT

HUPTI ANG HUSTONG KINAIYA — BISAN DILI MAKATARUNGAN ANG PAGTRATO SA IMO

Text: Genesis 39:19–23

Aduna siyay rason nga masuko, masakitan, mahimong bitter, ug ma-discourage.

But Joseph did not allow unfair treatment to destroy his character.

📖 Supporting Verses

Ephesians 4:31–32

> “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger… be put away from you…”

“Ipahilayo gikan kaninyo ang tanang kapaitan, kasuko, ug kapungot…”

1 Peter 2:20

> “But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.”

“Apan kon mag-antus kamo tungod sa pagbuhat ug maayo ug inyong giantos kini, kini makapahimuot sa Diyos.”

Colossians 3:23–24

> “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…”

Psalm 34:18

> “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted…”

---

💡 LESSON — LEKSYON

Joseph was mistreated, but he did not become a mistreater.

He was betrayed, but he did not become a betrayer.

Gibudhi siya, apan wala siya nahimong mabudhian.

He was falsely accused, but he did not abandon his character.

🔥 REMEMBER:

> The way people treat you does not determine who you will become. Your response reveals your character.

---

⚠️ REBUKE — PAGSULTI NGA MAKAPAHINUMDOM

Don't allow what people did to you to determine who you will become.

Don't let betrayal make you bitter.

Ayaw tugoti nga ang pagbudhi maghimo kanimo nga bitter.

Don't let rejection make you rebellious.

Ayaw tugoti nga ang rejection maghimo kanimo nga rebelde.

Don't let unfair treatment make you unfaithful.

---

❤️ ENCOURAGEMENT — PAGDASIG

People may misunderstand you, but God understands you.

People may reject you, but God will never abandon you.

Genesis 39:21 says:

> “But the LORD was with Joseph.”

> “Apan ang Ginoo nag-uban kang Joseph.”

Mahimong mausab ang imong location.

Mahimong mausab ang imong situation.

But God's presence can remain with you.

---

🎯 APPLICATION — APLIKASYON

When you are treated unfairly:

Ayaw panimalos. — Don't retaliate.

Ayaw mahimong bitter. — Don't become bitter.

Ayaw gub-a ang imong testimony. — Don't destroy your testimony.

Padayon sa pagbuhat sa husto. — Continue doing what is right.

Pasayloa ang nakapasakit kanimo. — Forgive those who hurt you.

Tugoti ang Diyos nga maoy modipensa kanimo. — Let God defend you.

— Keep serving God with a right heart.

🔥 REMEMBER:

> You cannot always control how people treat you, but you can control how you respond.

---

❤️5. NEVER GIVE UP

AYAW GYUD PAGUNDANG — KAY MAUSAB SA DIYOS ANG IMONG SITWASYON

Main Text: Genesis 41:14–16, 39–41

Si Joseph gikan sa prison to palace — prisohan ngadto sa palasyo — in one day.

Sulod sa daghang katuigan, daw walay nahitabo.

But suddenly, God opened a door that no human being could shut.

---

📖 Supporting Verses

Psalm 30:5

> “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

Isaiah 43:19

> “Behold, I am doing a new thing…”

“Tan-awa, nagabuhat Ako ug bag-ong butang…”

Jeremiah 29:11

> “For I know the plans I have for you…”

Psalm 126:5

> “Those who sow in tears shall reap with joy.”

Romans 8:28

> “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”

“Nahibalo kita nga ang t

---

💡 LESSON — LEKSYON

Joseph's situation changed, but God's purpose did not.

🔥 REMEMBER:

Delay is not always denial.

Ang delay dili kanunay denial.

Tingali giandam ka pa sa Diyos
