ISAAC AND REBEKAH
In Genesis 24, it is Isaac who discovers that God was not only faithful to Abraham, but that God's faithfulness extends to a new generation as well. The topic of Genesis 24 is the question many young men and women ask when they come of age, and that is where do I get a wife or husband?
After Sarah as passed on, Abraham too was very old. As he knows God's covenant promises, that all nations would be blessed through Isaac, he was concerned about finding Isaac a wife. He summoned the senior servant and assigned him the task to find a wife for Isaac.
How did Isaac and Rebekah get together?
The servant spotted a woman named Rebekah at the community well. Her kindness to him—and his weary camels—was impressive (Genesis 24:10–22). She communicated through word and action that she would make a good wife for Isaac, and they met after the servant asked God to lead him to the right girl.
Isaac was 40 years old when he married Rebecca. Twenty years elapsed before they had children; throughout that time, both Isaac and Rebecca prayed fervently to God for offspring. God eventually answered Isaac's prayers and Rebecca conceived.
The story of Rebekah shows God's providence, prayerful intervention, and how He can work through our mistakes to carry out His will.
To GOD be the Glory
