Day 5 | Last Day of Duyog Ramadan ๐ŸŒ™

Alhamdulillah, we have reached the final day of our Duyog Ramadan journey. Yesterday, we gathered at Sharief Alawe, grateful for the opportunity to once again share presence, dialogue, and solidarity during this sacred month of Ramadan.

For five meaningful days, hearts were opened, friendships were strengthened, and bridges of understanding were built across faiths and communities. Each Masjid visitation reminded us that peace begins with encounter, when we choose to listen, to walk together, and to stand for one another.

The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro โ€“ Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism Ministry remains honored to take part in the Annual Masjid Visitation and Iftar Program organized by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos together with Team Ompia ago Kalilintad.

As we conclude Duyog Ramadan, we celebrate not only the success of this initiative but the spirit of unity that continues to grow in our city.

Peace in Cagayan de Oro is not the work of one group alone, it is a shared mission. We recognize and thank our partners who tirelessly work hand in hand to preserve harmony and security:

the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office,
Task Force Oro,
Muslim Youth Council,
Interfaith Forum for Peace, Harmony, and Solidarity,
Northern Mindanao Ulama League,
and the Local Government of Cagayan de Oro.

Together, we prove that dialogue is stronger than division, and solidarity is more powerful than fear.

May the spirit of Ramadan continue to inspire compassion, respect, and unity among all of us. Padayon sa kalinaw, Cagayan de Oro. ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒ™

Day 3 | Duyog Ramadan

Yesterday, we gathered at Masjid Masakin in Mabasa, Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City for the third day of our Duyog Ramadan journey. The presence of the community was truly heartwarming, especially with the many Muslim children who attended and witnessed the visitation.

The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro โ€“ Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism Ministry continues to take part in the Annual Masjid Visitation and Iftar Program organized by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos together with Team Ompia ago Kalilintad.
In the spirit of Duyog Ramadan, we share not only space and meals, but also stories, understanding, and friendship. The presence of interfaith communities in sacred spaces sends a powerful message that peace is possible, that respect can be practiced, and that solidarity transcends religious differences.

Seeing many children present during the visitation reminds us why interfaith dialogue is essential for sustainability. When young minds witness peace-building firsthand, they grow up learning empathy, coexistence, and mutual respect. These lived experiences plant seeds of harmony that can shape a more united and peaceful future.

If you wish to join us in the remaining days of Duyog Ramadan, here are the upcoming schedules:

Accompanying Ramadan, famously known as Duyog Ramadan, is a beautiful practice of solidarity observed by Roman Catholics in Mindanao. It was initiated in 1979 by the first Bishop of the Prelature of St. Mary in Marawi City, the late Bienvenido S. Tudtud.

The program was born from a powerful question in Luke 10:29: โ€œWho is my neighbor?โ€ Inspired earlier in 1977 by the national campaign Alay Lakad, which aimed to raise awareness for the marginalized, the initiative eventually expanded to recognize the Muslim community as integral neighbors in our shared journey of faith.

In 1979, Duyog Ramadan was formally launched to foster deeper understanding and more meaningful Muslim-Christian relations โ€” a living witness of dialogue, respect, and shared spirituality.

Through fasting, prayer, presence, and accompaniment, we continue to answer the call: Who is my neighbor?

๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—”๐—— || The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oroโ€™s Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism Ministry issues a pastoral statement on the rare convergence of Ramadan and Lent in 2026.

In his message during the World Interfaith Harmony Week, Archbishop Jose A. Cabantan, D.D., together with ministry leaders and youth representatives, reminds the faithful that this sacred overlap is more than symbolic โ€” it is a call to rebuild trust, foster social cohesion, and act in solidarity for justice and peace in Mindanao.

The statement highlights fasting and prayer as shared disciplines of Muslims and Christians, urging communities to extend devotion into concrete action against poverty, displacement, and exclusion. It entrusts the youth with the responsibility of nurturing peace, resisting division, and embodying bayanihan across faith traditions.

This convergence affirms that enduring peace is not automatic but the fruit of consistent choices and collective action. More details on the statement can be read below.
