"From Weakness to Strength: Pentecost in my Journey"

Life is never easy. From the time we are young until we grow older, we face many challenges and trials. These struggles can come in different forms family problems, financial difficulties, sickness, failures in school or work, or even moments when we feel lost and unsure of what to do. Each challenge can feel heavy, and sometimes we wonder if we have the strength to keep moving forward. Yet, it is in these very moments of weakness and fear that God shows us His love and power. Pentecost reminds us that we are never alone, because the Holy Spirit is with us to give courage and to guide our choices.

Back when I was a child, I had cancer and spent almost 2 months in the hospital trying to recover. But God never abandons me; He's always on my side. And this reminds me of how God truly loved us. He never abandons those who trust in him. Challenges and trials will always be part of life. They are not punishments, but opportunities to grow. It teaches me patience, humility, and compassion. They remind us that we need God and cannot live by our own strength alone. Pentecost is important because it shows us that we are never abandoned.

The Spirit is alive in us, giving courage when we are weak and guiding our choices when we are confused. With the Holy Spirit, we can face life's trials with hope and faith.

Jesus Comes and Stays Forever
By: Sem. Ivan Dione Manlangit | Aspirant

A quote from Cecelia Ahern states, “People come and go,” a short phrase that people oftentimes use to overcome the overwhelming experience of being left behind by their loved ones. For some, they consider it a loss, but St. Matthew emphasized in his Gospel that the Ascension of Jesus is not all about leaving the disciples on their own. Rather, Jesus reminds them with His words, “I am with you always until the end of the age.” Jesus’ Ascension is not a loss for humanity, but a reminder to remain faithful until the end of our days.

From the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, the disciples always accompanied Him in proclaiming the Good News and healing people from different illnesses. In today’s Gospel, as we celebrate one of the significant events in the Bible, the Ascension of Jesus into heaven, we are reminded that Jesus did not leave us on our own but rather continues to reign forever in our hearts. With this, I remembered the moment I was baptized and became a child of God. I know that I have a mission that I have to fulfill in my earthly life. Though there are situations, such as problems and worldly desires, that block my path, I continue to believe that Jesus did not abandon me but remains beside me, sustaining me with His grace and protection.

In this Gospel, Jesus came into our lives and has never left us. This challenges me to accept the reality that life is full of challenges and sufferings, but amidst these, I know that Jesus’ presence is always within us and guides us in overcoming the adversities in our lives. In addition, this does not mean that I will only focus on my mission, but that I also need to be an instrument for others, an instrument not only to guide them but also to help them find the greatest mission in their lives. That is why, in the end, I know that it is only in Jesus’ sheltering care that you feel that you are not alone and never will be.

“A JOURNEY GUIDED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT”
by: Richard D. Lumawag

In this passage, Jesus reminds me of His commandment: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” It is an invitation for me to love the words of Jesus. Through this, I remain faithful to His words despite fear, and this becomes the way to strengthen my faith and deepen my love for Jesus.
Jesus then promises the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will remain in me forever. This is deeply comforting to me because Jesus knows that following Him is not easy and that there are many challenges in life that I may face. Because of this, He assures me that I will not be alone on my journey. The Spirit of God’s presence will be with me along the way, guiding me to the right path. Through the Holy Spirit, I will find strength whenever I become tired, and He will continue to guide me as I walk with Jesus.
Finally, Jesus says, “I will not leave you orphaned.” Through these words, I realize that Jesus will never leave me alone in moments of loneliness and fear of abandonment. He will always remain at my side even though He is no longer physically present. For me, His love and holy presence continue to remain in my heart.

Stars Amidst the Black Sky
By: Sem. Christian Tamayo | Aspirant

“Do not let your hearts be troubled.” In John 14:1–12, Jesus speaks these words to people overwhelmed by fear, uncertainty, and questions about the future—much like us today. As I have stayed here in the seminary for almost three years, I realize that navigating life is not meant to be easy; sometimes, it can drive us to ask ourselves if what we are doing is the right thing. As Fr. Ronald taught us, even in the darkest moments of our lives, we can find refuge.

Let me share my story from when I was still new here in the seminary. There was a time when I felt that I wanted to leave and continue my life outside the formation. This was due to struggles in my studies and in my personal life as well. But truly, God moves in mysterious ways. When I approached my formator, Fr. Candido, he told me to pause for a while and discern well. He also taught me that we must not make decisions out of impulsivity, because it can lead us to wrong decisions.

Life can feel like a vast black sky: worries about work, family, health, vocation, and the quiet fear of not knowing where we truly belong. Jesus does not offer quick solutions. Instead, He offers reassurance: “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.” God’s hands are wide enough to hold every life, every struggle, and every unfinished story. There is room for those who feel strong and for those who are barely holding on. No one is crowded out, forgotten, or unworthy. When Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” He invites us to choose trust over certainty. Like stars shining in the darkness, His promise does not remove the night, but it assures us that we are guided, loved, and moving toward a home already prepared in God’s care.

God as the shepherd and the gate
By: Sem. Prince Charles Gen N. Llagono | Aspirant

In the Gospel Jesus compares himself as the true shepherd and the gate for the sheep. Jesus said that only the true sheep can recognize and follow the voice of its shepherd but they will not follow a stranger. Instead they will run away because they do not recognize the stranger’s voice. This reminds me that God alone is the true shepherd and whoever listens to his voice and enters his gate will find peace, propose, and abundant life.

But in this Gospel, it leads me to the question, “how do we recognize God’s voice?” For me, recognizing God’s voice is not always as easy as it seems, especially in a world full of different voices, noises, distractions and confusions. And sometimes, we doubt whether this voice or calling is really from God. Sometimes, even if we know that it is God’s voice, we choose not to listen or to pay attention to it. Instead we choose to ignore it. That is why recognizing God's voice is not easy at all.

It’s much easier to recognize my mom’s voice even in crowded places than recognizing God’s voice. I remember when we were at the chapel in my hometown. My mom is one of the choir members there, and when she sings, I can still recognize her voice even though there are so many singers with her.

But in this Gospel, it makes me realize that God’s voice is nothing like the human voice. God’s voice is different from our voice. He calls us by our name and speaks in many ways. He speaks directly to our hearts and calls us in mysterious ways. Sometimes we need a lot of time to reflect and understand what God is trying to say. We need to open our hearts and minds, be attentive to His voice and draw closer to Him in order for us to recognize it. It also challenges us to learn to recognize his voice despite the noise.

"Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus." - 1 Timothy 3:13

In the quiet strength of service, a new professed deacon steps forward, ordained to shepherd souls with hands outstretched in love. Like a steadfast oak in the storm, he embodies humility that lifts others, wisdom that guides the lost, and faith that turns ordinary moments into miracles. May his life echo the Lord's call: not to be served, but to serve. Today, we celebrate this sacred beginning—may it inspire us all to live boldly for the Kingdom. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to strengthen his chosen vocation and enable him to live with humility in all aspects of his life.

Congratulations, Deacon Francis Atayza!

Spirit of a Gentleman’s Agreement
By: Sem. William Ace Barron

“Ipanumpa kong di tika biyaan, ug pagahuptan ko ang tanan. Ipanumpa kong di gyud ko mubuhi, ang kinabuhi ko kanimo ra…” This is a promise that does not grow tired, a promise that endures. It is the heart of a gentleman’s agreement— a promise not made to decorate words, but to guide actions.

When I think of promises, I think of my mother. I cannot recall a single time she failed to keep her word. If she said she would come, she came. If she promised to do something, she did it. No excuses. No delays. Just faithfulness. Because of her, I learned to value truth. I learned that in love, there is no room for lies. And like Jesus on the road to Emmaus, who revealed Himself to Cleopas after His suffering, a living sign of His promise fulfilled, I learned what true faithfulness means, even when it is hard, even when the world seems uncertain.

So when people say that promises are meant to be broken, I quietly disagree. A true gentleman keeps his word. He loves not only with words, but by staying, by showing up, and by holding on even when it is easier to let go.

“Ipanumpa kong di tika biyaan, ug pagahuptan ko ang tanan. Ipanumpa kong di gyud ko mubuhi, ang kinabuhi ko kanimo ra…” "In every gentleman's heart, promises are meant to be fulfilled not to be broken." . This is more than a vow. It is a way of life—a promise that breathes, endures, never fades, and remains forever.
