“COME HOLY SPIRIT, RENEW THE HEARTS OF YOUR FAITHFUL”

Pentecost Sunday reminds us of the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, the moment where fear was transformed into courage, silence into proclamation, and weakness into faith. This sacred celebration is also known as the birth of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, where the apostles were sent out to proclaim the Good News to all nations through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Just like the apostles, we sometimes become afraid, doubtful, and uncertain in life. Yet through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are strengthened and reminded that we are never alone in our journey of faith. The same Spirit that guided the disciples continues to guide the Church today.

The Holy Spirit is not only a symbol of fire and wind, but also the Spirit of love, wisdom, courage, and unity.

Pentecost reminds us that faith is not meant to be kept only within ourselves, but to be shared with others through love, humility, and service.

“Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love.”

“CONFIRMED, it’s 160th!”

Sto. Niño Parish has celebrated its milestone of 160 years of service and mission. In accordance with its mission to grow even more, a Holy Mass was celebrated and presided over by Rev. Msgr. Erwin Magnanao, VG, together with our parish priest Rev. Fr. Arnel M. Raboy and Parochial Vicars Rev. Fr. Sunday Brasona and Rev. Fr. Felmor Amparado also the invited priests.

The Mass was also offered as a great opportunity for the faithful to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. As the Church grows older, everyone is continuously encouraged to become missionaries of God’s people, missionaries who bring God’s love to others.

Sto. Niño de Cadiz Parish Church has long been a center of faith for the Cadizeños, and as it continues to grow through the years, its branches also continue to expand. We now need new branches to grow even stronger and deeper in faith than before.

Msgr. Erwin shared with everyone that we must become strong soldiers of Christ our Lord, for our love is rooted in Him alone. Our sacrifices and prayers are always heard by the Father we have in Heaven.

Now that 2026 has arrived, our mother church celebrates its 160th year. Yet despite its long history, the Church still continues to grow through the prayers, faithfulness, and active participation of the faithful. Together, we continue our shared mission to go as pilgrims of hope, bearing God’s light, walking by faith, and journeying together as “mag-ululupod” in this world.

That is why we say, “Uban ta bay,” which means, “Let us go together.”

In togetherness, we unite as one family in Christ our Lord.

With grateful hearts, the faithful of Sto. Niño Parish warmly welcomed Rev. Msgr. Erwin Magnanao, VG, yesterday. While the Parish Pastoral Council of San Carlos Borromeo carried the sadness to his new mission, they also found peace in God’s grace, praying for his safety, guidance, and continued ministry.

On behalf of the parish, Rev. Fr. Arnel Raboy warmly received and accompanied Msgr. Erwin throughout his visit. Also our Parochial Vicars, Rev. Fr. Sunday Brasona and Rev. Fr. Felmor Amparado exchanged heartfelt messages of welcome, gratitude, and fraternity, reflecting the unity and brotherhood within the Church.

One community was learning to accept, while the other was learning to let go. Such is the life of priesthood rooted in mission and service. Priests are entrusted with God’s people, and their calling often requires sacrifice, love, and the willingness to go beyond comfort for the sake of the mission.

As we are reminded: “If you feel heaviness in your heart, try to look back at where and why you started.”

Letting go is never easy. It carries sadness, memories, and longing. Yet sometimes, letting go becomes a new form of acceptance and growth. Life does not always remain in moments of comfort; it brings changes, challenges, and new journeys that shape us as pilgrims of hope and bearers of God’s light.

May this new chapter bring deeper faith, compassion, and wisdom to everyone. Though difficult, letting go can also open new doors for growth, service, and grace.

Happy 160th Founding Anniversary, Sto. Niño de Cadiz Church!

The Sto. Niño de Cadiz Parish Church was founded in 1866 by the Augustinian Recollects. The parish was first under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Jaro, then later transferred to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod, and eventually became part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Carlos.

The Sto. Niño de Cadiz Parish Church belongs to the Vicariate of Cadiz and serves as the mother church of seven parishes: Saint André Bessette Parish, Saint John the Baptist Parish, Saint Lorenzo Ruiz Parish, Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish, Holy Family Church, Sto. Rosario Parish, and the mother church itself, the Sto. Niño de Cadiz Parish Church.

The church was designed by the renowned Negrense architect Leandro Locsin. It features a unique architectural design inspired by prayer and faith, portraying folded hands as a symbol of devotion and hope among the Cadizeños. The church follows a basilica-inspired layout with massive symmetrical grooved walls that were formerly maroon and are now painted white.

The devotion to the Sto. Niño of Cadiz was introduced by Don Antonio Cabahug, the first gobernadorcillo of Cadiz City. Don Antonio Cabahug was known as a boat builder. During one of his journeys to Panay for boat construction, he received an image of the Sto. Niño along with sugarcane cuttings, which he later brought to Cadiz.

Throughout history, the Sto. Niño de Cadiz has been associated with several notable miracles. One of the most remembered stories was during the attempted attack of Moro pirates in the city. According to tradition, when the pirates arrived near the riverside of Cadiz, they retreated after seeing a huge white figure patrolling the shore, believed by the faithful to be the Sto. Niño protecting the city.

For generations, the Sto. Niño de Cadiz has remained the beloved patron of Cadiz City, becoming the center of the people’s faith, love, and devotion. The image of the Sto. Niño embodies humility, hope, and unwavering faithfulness. More than just a religious image, the Sto. Niño serves as a powerful reminder of the deeply rooted faith and enduring devotion of the Cadizeños for more than 160 years.

Still replaying the worship songs, the sessions, the laughters, the sleepless nights, the random chikas, the learnings, the memories, and the moments where we felt God’s presence through one another.

3 days ago, we gathered as one youth, praying together, praising together, and growing together in faith. PYD 2026 became more than just an event; it became a home for young hearts seeking Jesus and Ina.

From “Lapyo and kapoy na” to “Tani may sunod pa,” this journey reminded us that faith becomes lighter when shared with people who journey with you. 🤍

And until now… daw ara pa japon ta didto 😭✨

"DAL-ON TA ANG MISYON"

As our 3-day Youth Camp comes to its end, we showed perseverance in prayer, that even in the darkest moments of our lives, as pilgrims of hope and bearers of light, we should learn how to pray. Through prayer, we encounter God in the silence of the night, where doubts, fear, and anxiety arise.

We prayed the dawn rosary, always remembering and asking for the intercession of Our Lady, for she is the Queen who possesses the virtues of hope, faith, and love. Our Lady reminds us that whatever we feel, we have to hold on to her rosary as if we are holding the hands of our mother.

After the rosary, we had our final talk given by Sem. Chester Lai, who focused on our theme: “Rejoice in hope, endure in afflictions, persevere in prayer.” In his talk, he emphasized the essence of being hopeful, faithful, and most importantly, prayerful.

To formally close our program, we celebrated the Holy Mass offered by Rev. Fr. Arnel Raboy. In his homily, he reminded us to endure the afflictions we face in life, to rejoice in hope because our hope will never disappoint, and to persevere in prayer, for God hears us and will never abandon us.

Our theme reminded us that in the hope we hold, there is always God who strengthens us to endure afflictions and gives us the consistency to persevere in prayer. As pilgrims of hope and bearers of God’s light, we should carry the mission He entrusted to us for the least, the lost, and the last in our community.

Dal-on ta ang misyon. Padayon kita, mga pamatan-on, bilang mga Pilgrims of Hope kag bearers sang kapawa sang Diyos.

“PERSEVERE IN PRAYER”

With perseverance and consistency, the youth continued to pray. Though the event has come to an end, the mission continues beyond the gathering.

The hearts of the pilgrims somehow felt heavy as they prepared to leave MJ Escalante, where beautiful memories were made and meaningful moments were shared. The story of this gathering may end, but it ends with sacrifice, reminding everyone that in every moment, God remains the center of the journey.

Through prayer, the youth became united as one people of God. And as they held onto their rosaries, they were also holding onto the loving hands of Mother Mary, trusting in her guidance and intercession.

May Mother Mary continue to remind every pilgrim that in the everyday journey of life, the memories and lessons of PYD will never be forgotten. It became more than just a gathering, it became a gathering of hearts, faith, friendship, and mission.

As everyone slowly went home, sadness was also felt. Yet even though PYD has ended, the mission remains alive, and God continues to call each young person to serve, love, and persevere in faith.

Whenever the youth miss the moments of PYD, may they always remember to pray every day, so that their hearts may continue to remain in God’s mercy and in the spirit of being true Pilgrims of Hope and Bearers of Light.

“GINOO, DAL-A KAMI SA IMU GINHARI-AN”

The last day of the gathering fell on Ascension Sunday, where Christ Himself ascended into heaven through His power as the Son of God. The journey began with the example of San Isidro Labrador, the farmer called to cultivate God’s people, and concluded with the celebration of the Ascension of the Lord. This gave the youth a deeper understanding that their lives also play a role in the living story and mission of the Church.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Arnel Raboy, the parish priest who wholeheartedly supported this activity and journey of the youth.

In his homily, Fr. Raboy reflected on the theme: “Rejoice in Hope, Endure in Afflictions, Persevere in Prayer.” He connected this to the Gospel, where even the apostles experienced doubts. In moments of doubt, the faithful are called to “endure in afflictions”, to embrace the cross wholeheartedly and never deny it. Through sufferings and sacrifices, true fulfillment and lasting joy are eventually found in the journey of faith.

As Pilgrims of Hope and Bearers of Light, the youth were reminded that despite obstacles and hardships, they are called to rejoice in hope because God Himself is their hope. They are also called to endure afflictions, embracing the small sacrifices made in life, ministry, organization, and service. These sacrifices become part of the mission entrusted to every young heart.

The celebration also reminded everyone to persevere in prayer, trusting that God listens to every prayer offered with faith and sincerity. Through prayer, strength is found, hearts are renewed, and hope continues to grow.

May God continue to grant the youth the courage to endure afflictions and the strength to persevere in prayer, trusting that hope in the Lord never disappoints.

“ENDURE IN AFFLICTIONS”

Day 2 ended with the highest energy and perseverance. Amidst the challenges and afflictions encountered throughout the day, the kalakbays continued to hold on with courage and faith, enduring every struggle together as one community.

Some of the challenges and realizations became blessings in disguise through the talks on Shared Leadership, Sexual Abuse Awareness, and HIV Awareness. These sessions were shared with deep understanding, courage, and perseverance by the speakers, reminding the youth that they are walking hand in hand in one mission, where every young person carries a responsibility in serving the community.

As the day continued, the kalakbays also learned to lift up the heaviness of their hearts through praise, worship, and adoration of God’s mercy. Through fellowship and the prayers offered during the Taizé, the youth encountered a heart-to-heart conversation with God, finding peace, hope, and strength in His loving presence.

PADAYON TA BAY!

We started our PYD Day 2 with animation to energize the energy of our kalakbays. We then followed our talk given by our very own Kalakbay, Zyrah Necesario. The first session talked about shared leadership, emphasizing that commitment and answering “YES” to God’s call are essential in leading. For the challenges that may arise, we are to endure them and higugma this cross, for we believe that at the end of the day, we will see the triumph behind all the sufferings we have endured.

The shared leadership talk was followed by our second session from Cameleon Philippines Association, where they discussed sexual abuse in general. They shared with us that both prey and predator exist wherever injustice occurs. We must follow due process, and the victim should never be blamed, for they have already suffered enough. This session reminded us that our words and actions, as laypeople, can reflect God’s mission and love. As He said, “Higugmaa ang imu isigkatawo kasubong sang imu kaugalingon.” At this moment, we were encouraged to be open-minded and faithful, recognizing that sexual violence can occur regardless of gender, age, or race.

The third talk was on HIV awareness, delivered by Jerand John Magbanua. He educated the delegates on being aware of HIV and emphasized that even in the most unexpected ways, we can encounter disease. In these sufferings, we are encouraged to stay anchored in our prayers.

At night, we celebrated the Taizé prayer in intimate contact and interaction with God. The Taizé prayer was held to pause and reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. We believe we can apply these reflections in our lives, even during pain, because the Passion of Christ is the greatest example of God’s unending love.

We didn’t end the night without unforgettable moments. We shared our PYD presentation during Solidarity Night in Communion. As we encountered new people, we laughed and experienced unforgettable moments from God.

At the end of Solidarity Night, we closed with praise and worship for the glory of God, acknowledging how lovely He is and how wonderful it is to give Him praise. We then shared moments to encounter everyone in God’s mercy as brothers and sisters, believing and saying, “IPANUMPA ini naton nga kita magpadayon sa misyon kay ini bukal kag bukas sa aton kabubut-on.”

To formally close Solidarity Night, Manang Zyrah gave her closing message and challenged us to understand that we have a mission to hold on to, reminding us to:

REJOICE IN HOPE, ENDURE IN AFFLICTIONS, AND PERSEVERE IN PRAYER.

As one community, we believe that we, especially the PAMATAN-ON, will continue to padayon in our mission.
