Matthew 16:18
18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
(Douay Rheims Bible)

Happy Birthday, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church!

Today we rejoice not simply in a tradition, but in a living mystery—the birth of the Church at Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles like a rushing wind and tongues of fire. From that moment, fear was transformed into courage, confusion into mission, and silence into proclamation. The Church was no longer locked behind closed doors; it was sent forth into the world.

To call this the “birthday of the Church” is to recognize that the Church is not merely an institution, but a Spirit-filled body of believers united in Christ. The “One” Church speaks of unity amidst diversity—many nations, languages, and cultures, yet one faith and one baptism. The “Holy” Church is not holy because of human perfection, but because it is continually sanctified by God’s grace. The “Catholic” Church is universal, embracing all peoples and all corners of the world. The “Apostolic” Church stands firm on the foundation of the apostles, faithfully passing on the teaching and mission of Christ.

Pentecost reminds us that the Church is always being renewed. The same Spirit who empowered the first disciples continues to breathe life into every generation—calling the fearful to courage, the weary to hope, and the divided to communion. It is a reminder that faith is not meant to remain inside churches alone, but to be lived in families, communities, and the world.

So as we say, “Happy Birthday, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church,” we are also praying: Come, Holy Spirit, renew Your Church once more. Ignite our hearts with love, strengthen our faith, and send us forth as witnesses of Christ’s living presence in the world today.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: NOVEMBER 16-18 INC RALLY IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Caritas Philippines have denied involvement in or endorsement of any rallies scheduled from November 16 to 18, 2025, urging the public to be cautious and avoid spreading misinformation online. Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo of Kidapawan, who is also the national director of Caritas Philippines, emphasized the importance of discernment and warned against the circulation of false information.

Neither the CBCP nor Caritas Philippines has issued any call, authorization, or endorsement for participation in this event. Any claim, post, or message implying that the Church or its organizations are part of the said activity is false and misleading.

The CBCP and Caritas Philippines maintain their non-partisan stance because they dedicate their work to pastoral and humanitarian activities. The Church upholds truth and justice and serves the poor through peaceful dialogue and formation activities not through partisan mobilizations.

The faithful should check information sources before sharing content while following Gospel teachings about peace and truth and unity.
