San Roque, ipanalangin nio po ang mga kapatid naming a*o, na nilikha rin ng Ama. May damdamin at marunong magmahal, matakot, magutom at matuwa. Alalahanin nio po ang mga a*ong itinali o ikinulong na lamang ng may ari at ipanalangin nio rin po ang mga a*ong gala. Na walang umaring pamilya . Nais lamang po nilang mabuhay.
HOW DID ST. ROCH BECOME THE PATRON SAINT OF DOGS?
For Catholic dog owners—or as our beloved pups might call us, their “hoomans”—the memorial of St. Roch holds a special place. He is widely honored as the patron saint of dogs, but his story is also deeply connected with the sick, especially those suffering from the plague.
During the 14th century, St. Roch devoted himself to caring for people afflicted by the plague. He traveled from place to place, bringing comfort and assistance to those who were suffering. Eventually, he himself contracted the disease.
Fearing that he might infect others, St. Roch withdrew into the forest and lived in isolation. Weak, sick, and without anyone to care for him, he was slowly losing strength.
Then, according to tradition, God provided help in an unexpected way—a faithful dog. 🐕❤️
The dog would visit St. Roch, bring him bread, and lick his wounds, helping him survive during his illness. The dog’s owner eventually followed the animal into the forest, discovered St. Roch, and cared for him.
Because of this beautiful tradition, St. Roch became associated with dogs, the faithful care they give, and protection from contagious diseases.
His story reminds us that God can send comfort and help through the most unexpected creatures—even through a loyal four-legged friend. 🐾
