FAITH and FACTS: Solemnity of La Virgen Divina Pastora de Gapan
Today, May 1, we joyfully celebrate the Solemnity of La Virgen Divina Pastora de Gapanโour beloved Queen of the Central Plains, Patroness of the Diocese of Cabanatuan, and a mother close to the hearts of many faithful.
This devotion presents Mary as a loving shepherdessโan image of a mother who cares, guides, and leads her people to Christ. Originating in Seville, Spain in 1703, the devotion spread to the Philippines and became deeply rooted in Gapan, with the cherished tradition of Traslacionโa journey of faith from Callos to the Minor Basilica.
For many, this devotion is more than tradition.
For farmers, it is thanksgiving for blessings.
For the sick, it is hope for healing.
For those burdened in life, it is comfort and peace.
On this Labor Day, we are reminded that in the midst of our work and struggles, we find rest and strength in God, through the loving guidance of Mary.
As our Mother, she continues to lead us closer to Jesusโteaching us to trust that our prayers are heard and answered in Godโs perfect time.
Through this, we are reminded:
Mary guides us with love.
Mary leads us to Christ.
Mary teaches us to trust.
