Theme: ARE WE PREPARED?
Text: The Parable of the 10 Virgins (Matthew 25:1–13)

Background & Symbolism
• The 10 Virgins: Symbolize us as Christians.
◦ 5 Wise Virgins: Represent sincere, genuine Christians.
◦ 5 Foolish Virgins: Represent hypocrites or superficial believers.
• The Oil: Symbolizes the Holy Spirit dwelling inside the lamp. What is on the inside is far more important than the external appearance.
3 MORAL LESSONS
1. THE NECESSITY OF PERSONAL PREPARATION
- This lesson teaches that you cannot rely on others, like family, friends, or your community,to carry your spiritual or moral weight. True faith, character, and readiness must be cultivated individually.
Matthew 25:9 (NLT)
"But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’"
• We cannot share our salvation: Salvation is deeply personal. We cannot save anyone else; it is only through our own personal relationship with God, and our trust and faith in Jesus as our Savior, that we are saved.
• The purpose of community: Yes, we are called to help each other. The reason the virgins were together is because our journey on this earth as Christians is meant to be shared in fellowship, encouraging one another. However, God is highlighting how critical it is to have an independent, personal relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 24:13 (NLT)
"But the one who endures to the end will be saved."
2. THE DANGER OF PROCRASTINATION
Procrastination causes us to delay the things that matter most: repentance, spiritual growth, and obedience.
The delay in the bridegroom’s arrival left all the virgins sleeping, but only the prepared ones were able to wake up and light their way. The lesson is to avoid putting off your spiritual growth and repentance for later.
Joel 2:12–13 (NLT)
"That is why the Lord says, ‘Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.’ Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish."
• Haan tay nga urayenen nga pumintas pay ti biag tayo, tapno sumubli tay ken Apo. (Let us not wait for our lives to become perfect before we return to the Lord.)
• Waiting until the last minute—like the foolish virgins trying to buy oil in the middle of the night—leads to missed opportunities and being shut out.
• Our timing is different from God’s timing: God is never actually late.
Matthew 25:5 (NLT)
"When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep."
(Note: The "delay" reflects the posture and perception of their hearts; they perceived a delay because they became drowsy and fell asleep.)
3. THE VIRTUE OF CONSTANT VIGILANCE
- Because the exact time of the bridegroom's arrival was unknown, the parable warns against spiritual complacency.
- Spiritual complacency (being lukewarm) is a dangerous state of self-satisfaction and stagnation. It happens when you become overly comfortable with your current spiritual state, leading to neglected spiritual disciplines, a lack of vigilance, and a slow drift away from God without even noticing.
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
• Hindi natin namamalayan, nauubusan na pala tayo ng oil... Ang isang taga-ubos ng lana natin ay ang kaaway. (Without realizing it, we may already be running out of oil... One of the things that drains our oil is the enemy.)
Revelation 3:15–16 (NKJV)
"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth."
• As Christians, we are either lukewarm or hot. We cannot claim to be "cold" (completely ignorant) because we already know the TRUTH. The Oil is what helps us stay warm and on fire for God.
• This is a call to stay alert, intentional, and actively engaged in keeping your metaphorical lamp lit through prayer, wisdom, and good deeds.
• An empty vessel: We cannot be filled with the Holy Spirit if we are already filled with the things of this world.
Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)
"Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit."
Conclusion (A Sign of the End Times)
Matthew 24:12 (NKJV)
"And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold."
The final question remains for each of us:
