MONTHLY PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING & WELCOMING OF OUR NEW PARISH VICAR

The Parish Pastoral Council gathered for its Monthly Meeting to discuss important matters, plans, and activities for the life and mission of our parish.

The meeting was also a meaningful occasion as we warmly welcomed Rev. Fr. Florentino De Guzman as our new Parish Vicar. We are grateful for his presence and look forward to working together in faith, service, and unity for the good of our parish community.

May the Lord guide and bless Fr. Florentino as he begins his ministry with us. May we continue to walk and serve together as one parish family.

NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
📅 August 9, 2026
"Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."
— Matthew 14:27
Today, we gather as one community of faith to celebrate the Holy Eucharist on this Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, as the Lord reminds us to remain steadfast in faith even in the midst of fear, uncertainty, and life's storms.
In today's Gospel, the disciples find themselves struggling against the waves when Jesus comes toward them walking on the sea. Filled with fear, they hear His reassuring words: “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter then steps out of the boat and walks toward Jesus, but when he becomes overwhelmed by the strong wind, his faith begins to falter. Yet even in his moment of doubt, Jesus reaches out His hand and saves him.
Like Peter, there are moments when we may feel overwhelmed by the storms of life. We may become anxious, uncertain, or afraid of what lies ahead. Today's Gospel reminds us that faith does not mean the absence of difficulties; rather, it means trusting that Christ is with us even in the midst of them.
The first reading also reminds us that God is not always encountered in the extraordinary. Elijah discovers the presence of the Lord in a tiny whispering sound. In the silence of our hearts, God continues to speak, comfort, and guide us.
May this Eucharistic celebration help us become more attentive to God's presence, especially in the quiet moments of our lives. May we learn to keep our eyes fixed on Christ rather than on the storms surrounding us, trusting that He will never abandon us.
As we celebrate this Holy Mass, let us bring before the Lord all our fears, struggles, hopes, and intentions. May He strengthen our faith, calm our hearts, and give us the courage to continue walking with Him.
🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus, when the storms of life make us afraid, help us to remember that You are always near. Strengthen our faith when we begin to doubt, guide our steps when we feel lost, and teach us to trust in Your loving presence. May we always hear Your voice saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Amen.

The Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was unveiled at the St. Joseph Cathedral Diocesan Shrine as part of its visit to the Diocese of Butuan.

A Pontifical Mass was celebrated by Most Rev. Cosme Damian R. Almedilla, Bishop of Butuan, marking the beginning of the pilgrim image’s visitation at the Cathedral.

The Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will remain at the St. Joseph Cathedral Diocesan Shrine from August 8 to 10, 2026.

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝟑𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝐁𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐠!

On this day, as the Church honors the Memorial of St. John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests, we also joyfully celebrate the 39th Sacerdotal Anniversary of our beloved shepherd, Most Rev. Cosme Damian R. Almedilla, D.D.

With grateful hearts, we thank God for Bishop Ming’s faithful service and loving leadership in the Diocese of Butuan. Let us continue to pray that the Lord may bless him with good health, wisdom, strength, and overflowing grace as he carries out his mission of shepherding God’s people.

Happy 39th Sacerdotal Anniversary, Bishop Ming! May Christ, the Good Shepherd, always guide, protect, and strengthen you in your priestly ministry.
