AUGUST 22: THE QUEENSHIP OF THE VIRGIN MARY

The Blessed Virgin Mary is hailed by Catholics as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. This title is given to Mary based primarily on her role as Theotokos, or being the Mother of God. This is also the 5th Glorious Mystery which we meditate upon when we pray the Rosary. In 1954, Pope Pius XII, through the document “Ad Caeli Reginam,” established the memorial of the Queenship of Mary which is celebrated on the octave (eighth day) of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary.

Servant of God Amanda Gilseth Ruiz Suarez

Today is the death anniversary of the Servant of God Amanda Gilseth Ruiz Suarez. She was a Venezuelan 6-year-old girl. She was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 3-years-old. She was of remarkable spiritual maturity due to her love for the Christian life, showing great hope and unusual joy in the midst of her illness. After battling the disease for more than three years, she died bearing witness to his total trust in God.
