POPE TO PRIESTS: UPHOLD LITURGICAL TEXTS AND REGULATIONS

Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday reminded priests and liturgical ministers to faithfully uphold the Church’s liturgical texts and regulations, saying respect for the sacred liturgy reflects humility before God and fidelity to the Church.

Speaking during his General Audience at Saint Peter’s Square, the pope reflected on the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium, which focused on liturgical reform and renewal in the Catholic Church. Leo XIV emphasized that authentic reform must remain rooted in Catholic tradition while remaining open to legitimate development suited to the needs of the faithful.

“I therefore urge all those called to prepare the celebration of the divine mysteries, in particular priests who exercise the ministry of liturgical presidency, to always uphold that respect for the texts and regulations of the liturgy,” the pope said. He added that such respect should flow from “an inner attitude of openness and trust in God,” together with “sincere fidelity to ecclesial communion.”

The pontiff also cautioned against unauthorized changes in liturgical celebrations, citing the Council’s warning against anyone independently altering liturgical practices. He stressed that reforms within the Church should undergo careful theological, historical, and pastoral discernment in order to preserve unity among the faithful and deepen participation in the Paschal Mystery of Christ.

MARY'S MONTH IS ABOUT TO END, BUT OUR DEVOTION TO HER CONTINUES EVERYDAY

As May draws to a close, the Church slowly says goodbye to a month specially dedicated to honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary. Throughout these days, we offered flowers at her altar, prayed the Holy Rosary, joined Marian processions, and lifted our hearts to the Mother of God with love and confidence.

But true devotion to Mary does not end when May ends.

A genuine child of Mary continues to seek her prayers, imitate her humility, and follow her example of complete trust in God every day of the year. Our Blessed Mother remains beside us in every season of life—guiding us in moments of uncertainty, comforting us in sorrow, and leading us ever closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Mary never keeps anything for herself; she always points us to Jesus. Every Rosary prayed, every “Hail Mary” whispered, and every act of faith entrusted to her loving care brings us nearer to the Sacred Heart of her Son.

Though the Month of Mary may end on the calendar, our love for her continues in our homes, our prayers, and our hearts. Let us continue to honor her not only with words, but through a life rooted in faith, purity, obedience, and charity.

May our Blessed Mother continue to protect our families, strengthen our faith, and intercede for the needs of the whole world.

May 24 — Memorial of Mary, Help of Christians

Today, the Church lovingly honors the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Mary, Help of Christians. This beautiful devotion reminds us that Our Lady never abandons her children, especially in times of suffering, confusion, persecution, and spiritual battle. Through her maternal intercession, countless Christians throughout history have found protection, strength, peace, and victory in moments when all hope seemed lost.

The title “Help of Christians” became especially known through the devotion promoted by Saint John Bosco, who entrusted the young, the Church, and the whole world to the care of the Blessed Mother. He believed that every grace and blessing comes through her loving hands. Even today, many faithful continue to run to Mary in prayer, asking her guidance in trials, temptations, and difficulties of life.

Mary helps Christians not by replacing Christ, but by always leading us closer to Him. At Cana, she told the servants, “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5). A true mother points her children toward what is good, holy, and eternal. In the same way, Mary gently leads us to deeper faith, sincere repentance, and greater love for God.

In a world filled with fear, division, and uncertainty, the title Help of Christians is a reminder that heaven has not forgotten us. We are not alone in our struggles. Our Blessed Mother continues to pray for the Church and accompany every faithful soul seeking refuge in her Immaculate Heart.

Prayer for Pentecost Sunday

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill our hearts with Your presence
and set our souls on fire with Your love.

On this blessed feast of Pentecost,
renew Your Church and awaken in us
the courage to live the Gospel faithfully.
Where there is fear, give us strength.
Where there is doubt, give us faith.
Where there is sadness, give us joy.

Teach us to listen to Your voice
in the silence of prayer
and in the needs of others.
Make us instruments of peace, mercy, and truth
in a world longing for Your light.

Holy Spirit,
just as You descended upon the Apostles,
descend upon us today.
Transform our hearts,
strengthen our families,
guide our decisions,
and lead us closer to Jesus Christ.

May our words speak kindness,
our actions reflect charity,
and our lives proclaim the love of God.

Come, Holy Spirit, come!
Never leave us,

The Feast of Pentecost is Here!

Today, we celebrate the glorious Feast of Pentecost — the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the Church.

What began in the Upper Room became a mission that changed the world forever. Filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit, the Apostles went forth without fear to preach Christ crucified and risen. From that moment on, the Church began proclaiming the Gospel to every nation.

Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not distant. He is alive and moving within the Church and within every faithful believer. He strengthens the weak, comforts the broken, enlightens the mind, and renews the soul.

Today is an invitation to open our hearts once more to God’s Spirit. Let His fire burn away fear, sin, hatred, and doubt. Let Him fill us with courage, faith, wisdom, and love.

WE WEAR RED ON PENTECOST SUNDAY

On Pentecost Sunday, the Church wears red as a powerful symbol of the Holy Spirit’s fire that descended upon the Apostles in the Upper Room. This event, described in the Acts of the Apostles, marks the moment when the frightened disciples were transformed into courageous witnesses of Christ. The Holy Spirit came like a strong driving wind and appeared as tongues of fire resting upon each of them. From that moment, their hearts were no longer ruled by fear, but by divine courage, wisdom, and love.

The color red in the liturgy represents this sacred fire. It is not a destructive fire, but a life-giving flame that purifies, strengthens, and renews. It signifies the burning love of God poured into the hearts of believers and the zeal that moved the Apostles to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. Red also reminds us of the sacrifices made by the martyrs, who bore witness to Christ with courage even unto death, sustained by the same Holy Spirit.

Wearing red on Pentecost is more than a tradition; it is a visible expression of faith.
