Gospel of the day
Luke 11:1-4

He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples."

And he said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.

Give us each day our daily bread;

and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive every one who is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation."

REFLECTION

Lord, teach us to pray," a disciple asked, prompting Jesus to offer the "Our Father." Saint Andre Bessette remarked, "When you say the Our Father, God’s ear is next to your lips." Saint Teresa of Ávila advised that heartfelt words of this prayer are more effective than rushed repetition. Saint Thérèse of Lisieux turned to it in spiritual dryness.

At Mass, we're reminded of the boldness in calling God "Father." Chapter 11 of "My Catholic Worship" emphasizes this confidence, reminding us to approach God as loving children, fully trusting in His love, regardless of our sins.

Familiarity with the "Our Father" can lead to mechanical recitation. Reflect on its depth, praying each word with intention and love, recognizing God as Father, and meditating on its seven petitions for a transformative spiritual impact.

Gospel of the day
Luke 10:38-42

Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house.

And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching.

But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."

But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;

one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her."

Reflection:

Our Lord's words encapsulate the Gospel's core message: to choose "the better part" daily. Jesus, a frequent guest at Martha, Mary, and Lazarus's home, was once visited by them. Mary sat at His feet, fully engaged, while Martha, preoccupied with hosting duties, asked Jesus to intervene. Unwittingly, Martha was distracting Mary from her life's true purpose.

Mary's actions remind us to prioritize our ultimate calling amidst life's demands. While daily tasks are necessary, we mustn't lose sight of our eternal vocation: worshipping God. Reflect on your daily activities. Are you carving out time for adoration and silent prayer amidst the busyness?

Imagine dedicating an hour each day to silent prayer, emulating Mary. You might think of other "important" tasks, but is it really impossible to find time for God? Avoid being like Martha to yourself, excusing the neglect of daily adoration. Jesus desires to affirm your choice of the better part, a choice that will enrich your life. Commit to this time with Him, and you'll discover a more fruitful and ordered life.

Kinsa man ako?”
