GOSPEL OF THE DAY
- Jn 16: 5-11-
But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, `Where are you going?'
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.
Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
REFLECTION:
No
The Apostles struggled with Jesus' departure, balancing grief with trust in His promise. Jesus explained His ascension was necessary to send the Holy Spirit, who would guide and empower them. Despite missing Jesus' physical presence, they were assured of His constant spiritual presence and the coming of the Holy Spirit to lead and strengthen them.
We, like the Apostles, may not see Jesus physically, but we share the privilege of His presence and the Holy Spirit's guidance. However, we often overlook the Holy Spirit's role in our lives, even after receiving Him, perhaps during Confirmation. We might not fully open our hearts to His transformative power.
As Pentecost approaches, marking the Holy Spirit's descent, let's reflect on our relationship with the Holy Spirit. Acknowledge if you need to welcome Him more fully into your life. Trust in Jesus' desire for you to experience the Holy Spirit's fullness and embrace this divine union without fear.
concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more;
concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
Holy Spirit, please come to me. Help me to fan into flame Your presence in my life. May I receive You who was promised by Jesus in Your fullness. Holy Spirit, Divine Jesus, Merciful Father, I trust in You. Amen.
