Snapshots II September 2-4, 2026

As part of our Spiritual preparation for the Feast Day of our Patron - this week, the image of St. Francis of Assisi visited the barangays of San Roque, Sta. Clara and Sta. Elena, and the Holy Child Educational Center.

The Pagsungko of St. Francis of Assisi invites us to know him more, to reflect the life that he shared, to imitate the care for God's creation and the spirit to love God as he did.

Gratitude to the barangays and school who prepared and accommodated the visit of our Patron Saint.

A SHORT CATECHESIS ON CORPUS CHRISTI ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

1. What is Corpus Christi?

Corpus Christi is a Latin phrase meaning โ€œThe Body of Christ.โ€ It is a great feast of the Catholic Church that honors the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

2. When is Corpus Christi celebrated?

Corpus Christi is traditionally celebrated on the Thursday following the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. In many countries, including the Philippines, it is usually transferred to the following Sunday so that more of the faithful may participate in the celebration.

3. Why is Corpus Christi important?

This feast is important because the Church publicly proclaims her faith that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Eucharistโ€”Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

4. What is its basis in Sacred Scripture?

Jesus said:

โ€œI am the living bread that came down from heaven.โ€ (John 6:51)

At the Last Supper, He also declared:

โ€œThis is my body, which will be given up for you.โ€ (Luke 22:19)

These words form the foundation of the Churchโ€™s belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

5. How did this feast begin?

To answer this. Let us together look at the Key Historical Milestones:

1246: Origins in Liรจge
Prompted by the visions of โ St. Juliana of Liรจge, Bishop Robert de Torote established the first diocesan celebration, which was initially held in 1247.

1263: The Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena
According to tradition, a priest experiencing doubts witnessed a consecrated host bleed onto an altar cloth. The miraculous corporal was brought to Pope Urban IV in nearby Orvieto, reinforcing the need for a eucharistic feast.

1264: Universal Papal Institution
Pope Urban IV issued the papal bull "Transiturus de hoc mundo," establishing the feast for the entire Latin Church on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. He commissioned the renowned theologian โ St. Thomas Aquinas to compose the liturgy, office, and hymns (including Pange Lingua and Tantum Ergo).

1317: Universal Adoption
Though initially slow to spread, Pope John XXII promulgated the feast universally across the Latin Church, cementing the tradition of vibrant, public Eucharistic processions.

6. What is usually done on Corpus Christi?

The faithful participate in the Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and Eucharistic Processions. During the procession, the Blessed Sacrament is carried in a monstrance through the streets as a public witness of faith in Christ truly present in the Eucharist.

7. What is the message of Corpus Christi for us today?

Corpus Christi invites us to:

* Believe firmly in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
* Participate more frequently and devoutly in the Holy Mass.
* Receive Holy Communion with reverence and proper preparation.
* Spend time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
* Become the โ€œBody of Christโ€ in the world through love, charity, and service to others.

Reflection

The Feast of Corpus Christi reminds us that Jesus did not leave us alone. He remains with us in the Eucharist as our spiritual food, our strength, and our companion on the journey of faith.

โ€œWhoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.โ€ (John 6:56)

May our celebration of Corpus Christi deepen our love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and inspire us to become living witnesses of His presence in the world.

We also ask for your *prayers and patience* as construction is ongoing. There may be dust, noise, and changes in seating, but let these be offered as small sacrifices for the greater glory of God.

What a beautiful day of faith, joy, and community!

Last Monday, we gathered to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Our hearts were filled with gratitude as we walked in his footsteps, remembering his message of peace, humility, and love for all creation.
We were deeply blessed to have His Grace, Most Rev. Adolfo Tito C. Yllana, D.D., Titular Bishop of Montecorvino, Apostolic Nuncio-Emeritus to Jerusalem and Palestine preside over the Pintakasi Mass. His presence and inspiring homily brought a spirit of grace to the celebration, making the feast truly unforgettable for everyone present.
As we reflect on these moments, we pray that the peace of Christ remains with us. May we carry the gentle spirit of St. Francis into our daily lives and be a source of kindness to those around us.

A deep gratitude to Most Rev. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon, D.D., Archbishop of Caceres, and the concelebrating priests for leading the faithful in the Eucharistic celebration and for inspiring the community to walk in the footsteps of St. Francis -- embracing humility, peace, and love for creation. May the spirit of St. Francis continue to guide our parish, ignite our faith, and remind us to be instruments of God's peace.
