NSFF 2022 in Business Mirror

"The inhabitants of the place prided themselves in that interiority and isolation. Imagined as it may be (there are now other routes by which one can reach the town), the lakeshore town with its piquant language has the right to that claim of singularity. That distinction is theirs to embrace; it makes their work—the films—magical."

BUHI ST. JOSEPH'S ACADEMY, INC.

Founded in 1947, Buhi St. Joseph's Academy, Inc. (BSJAI), formerly known as St. Joseph's Academy, is a private school located in San Pedro, Buhi, Camarines Sur. "Building the Youth, Building the Nation" is the institution’s philosophy.

Don Jose Eclarinal Noble’s lifelong dream came true with the institutionalization of BSJAI. A dream that drove him to drop out of law school at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST). To equip himself on the establishment of an educational institution, Don Noble pursued education courses at UST instead.

The BSJAI was initially launched in mid-year 1947 with only 96 students, ranging from first to the fourth year. It was situated in Mrs. Tecla Soler's home in San Buenaventura, Buhi, Camarines Sur (now the Mandel Bldg.). In 1955, Mr. Pablo Alhambra was the principal, and Don Jose Noble was the first school director.

After nearly a decade of operation, the school was relocated to its current location in San Pedro, Buhi, Camarines Sur owned by Mr. Maximo Agnes Noble. This is in response to the growing population of students and faculty and the physical, structural, and financial innovations.

As a private institution, BSJAI is registered under SEC NO. CN200803096 dated February 29, 2008 as a family corporation. Its junior high school and senior high school are recognized under Recognition No. 014 s. of 2008 by the Department of Education.

Meanwhile, its recently opened college programs’ Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Public Administration is recognized under Government Permit No. 11 s. 2020 of the Commission on Higher Education. This makes BSJAI the first private Higher Education Institution in the town of Buhi.

BSJAI celebrated its diamond jubilee last March 12–19, 2022, with the theme "We stride and rise at 75." In its 75 years as an educational institution, BSJAI continues to strive to provide quality education to Buhinëns and live up to it simply the best."

ST. BRIDGET SCHOOL

When the late Rev. Msgr. Vicente Vargas, the parish priest of Buhi, pleaded gently but persistently for a religious Congregation to run a Catholic high school for young girls, the Religious of the Good Shepherd (RGS) responded by establishing St. Bridget School on May 19, 1963.

On the first day of operation, 156 students were enrolled filling one section of second years and three sections of first years. In 1970, the campus was used as a temporary emergency hospital for the victims of Typhoon Sining, and since then has become a refuge for victims of various calamities. Up until 1982, the school served as a vocational department, initially catering to young girls only, then opening its doors to young boys from the local community in 1974. After 1982, it was transformed into a college-preparatory institution for young Buhinons.

Ever since the establishment of the SBS, the school has provided the townspeople a place to learn and also refuge from calamities. It provided young girls an opportunity to learn vocational courses which helped the town’s economy especially after it opened its doors as a college-preparatory institution, SBS has been remembered to have produced students that have developed a deep appreciation of Filipino history and culture, heritage freedom, traditions, values, and ideals of justice and peace.

Lastly, its role as a place of refuge for victims of calamities, as well as women and young girls who were victims of abuse were socially significant to the town. The role the institution puts into highlights the importance of providing women equal opportunity, protection, and rights.

The school celebrated its Golden Jubilee on May 19, 2013 and on March 23, 2018 the RGS Sisters entrusted the school to the Archdiocese of Caceres. In 2019, the school also opened a senior high school department that offered academic tracks to its students. This May 19, 2022, St. Bridget School will be celebrating its 59th year as an academic institution that continues to inspire its students to “let their light shine”.
