PHILIPPINE MISSION
March 2020

Greetings from the Philippines.

I’ve been back in the Philippines for 3-1/2 months and it’s gone by in a flash. I arrived November 15th and we welcomed visitors about a week later from my home church in Libby, MT. It was fun to see them and show them around. We were sad that they weren’t able to stay longer but I hope we made the time count.

One week into December I had a bout with pneumonia and landed in the hospital for a week. I had very good doctors and excellent care at our brand new hospital in Solano. Salubris Hospital just opened in the summer of 2019 and it’s very modern and very clean. My doctor is one I’ve known for the 30 years I’ve lived here in this area. He made sure I followed his orders to the letter. After a week he let me go home to finish my recovery. It’s taken awhile but I’m finally feeling normal again.

I got home just in time to begin all the preparations for our annual Christmas celebrations. The aunties and the kids took over and everything went off without a hitch. Many of the kids that were raised here come home for the celebration and most of them managed to be here for Christmas or New Years or both. We had a fantastic time celebrating the Birth of our Savior, Jesus, and bringing in the New Year. Our bigger kids have families of their own now and the aunties families all come for the Celebration.

Christmas crew getting ready for our “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” annual Party on Christmas Day.

These two baby girls greeted me when I arrived. Reah was born in May and Joanna was born in June. They are amazing little ones and being prepared for adoption. They are now scooting around in their walkers …. I think they are trying to run races with me. My ankle is getting stronger all the time.

Nov 2019 – Reah and Joanna 6 months Mar 2020 ---- Reah & Joanna – 9-1/2 mos.

They have grown so quickly. They are waiting for their forever families.

In February we had our Philippine Board of Directors meeting and elected two new members to the Board. Carl Stevens, American missionary who is working in Tuguegarao. He is a pilot and mechanic with CARM (Christian Aviation and Radio Mission) and he and his wife, Ronalyn, have been in the Philippines for about 20 years. He preaches in the local churches and was formerly in Africa for 8 years before coming to the Philippines. Sally Harms also came onboard with us. She is a retired missionary from Canada. She and her husband ministered here many years until the Lord took him Home. Both she and Carl will be a great addition to our Board. We said a fond farewell to Ronald Vegiga who resigned because he will be coming to work with us in May as the Coordinator for our Community Outreach Program; and Dale Mueller, American missionary in southern Luzon who is now partially retired but still here in the Philippines many months of the year. Thank you both so much for your help this past few years.

When Pastor Ronald joins us again he will be able to go out into the barrios with the Social Worker when we deliver milk or other help that we are providing to help the children and their families through our Community Outreach Program. He will have Bible Studies and/or devotion times with the them also. We are all very excited about this new Outreach. This has been a dream of mine for many years to minister to the parents of the children while we are helping their children. Pastor Ronald worked with us for 2 years right after Dick passed away and so he’s very well known by all of our staff. I feel this is a trial training period also as he and Ruby will be very capable to work together with the Children’s Home in the event that I can no longer do it. Ruby has been with the Children’s Home for 27 years. She was 21 when she first came to work for us as a Cook. Now her title is Admininstrative Officer and she handles all of the gov’t offices that we have to deal with and a lot of the overall work in the Office. She is also on the Bank Accounts and signs all papers when I’m not available.

Presently, we have an outbreak of Swine fever in the hog population in many areas of the Philippines and it’s here in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, now. It is posing a BIG problem for anyone with pigs. Yesterday they slaughtered over 1000 pigs and buried them. Even some did not have the virus but they were in the 2-1/2 kilometer radius so they had to be destroyed also. It’s so sad for the farmers who have put all their time, money and hard work into this for their living and now it’s all gone. So many people will suffer.

Also I’m getting reports of planes not flying from So. Korea, China or even Japan to Manila now and many who have had return tickets are now finding themselves with cancelled tickets because of the Corona virus. There are very few flights that fly from Manila to anywhere that don’t go through those countries first. This may create a HUGE problem for many. Several of my friends have had their tickets cancelled. Some are stranded. The Philippines doesn’t have many cases and only about 22 deaths to date. This really puts a damper on the visitors we were hoping would be coming in May to launch the kids “Going back to School Program”. They might not be going back to school in June. Our schools get out in just a few weeks (end of March) so that is going to help.
Aaron who is 9 yrs old is home sick with tonsillitis but doing much better today after getting antibiotics started. He has his appetite back but I’m keeping him home this whole next week to make sure.

Aaron, Reah, Joanna, Angelito

Just wanted to give you a short update and ask your prayers and let you know we’re praying for all of you there as you also deal with this Corona virus that is threatening the world. These are interesting times. We know God is in control and we pray “In Jesus name” for His protection for all His people.

Love & prayers,
Kay Davidson

Bonfal Children’s Home, Inc.
Nov/Dec 2019

NEW NAME ………..
Bonfal Children’s Home, Inc.
Last year when we went to our local Barangay Hall to get our yearly cedula for the Children’s Home we were asked why we had the name Solano instead of Bonfal since we are now located in Bonfal Proper. They asked us if we might rename our organization to represent this area. After checking with the SEC and our local Welfare Dept (DSWD) we decided that was a good idea.
BACK IN THE PHILIPPINES …… I’ve been back for 2 weeks now and I’m so happy to be warm again. When I boarded the airplane in Billings, MT it was 2 degrees above zero but it’s been near 80 degrees since I’ve been back. I love it! Even having to wait 30 hours for my luggage to catch up to me didn’t dampen my enthusium. As many of you know, I broke my ankle on August 16th and had to delay my plans to return to the Philippines for an extra 2 months. spent much of that 2 months in a Rehab Center but PTL my ankle healed well and I’m well on the road to recovery. I’m still using a cane and walker and wearing the “boot” part of the time but getting stronger day by day. I will begin PT next week which should make progress even faster. I have no pain, no meds which is a real plus.
BABIES ………….. Sorry I can't post pics here.

Reah & Joanna are new to the Home and greeted me with a friendly smile. They are only 2 weeks apart in age and adorable. They are just 6 months old and very active. All our children and workers love them so much.

VISITORS … A few days after I returned we welcomed two visitors from my home church in Libby, MT, Steve Johnson & Dave Iliff. Sadly they were only here a couple of days but we hope they enjoyed themselves. We had 3 typhoons lurking out on the east coast which made travel chancy.

CHRISTMAS TIME ……. Our two eight year olds (Aaron and Angelito) are so excited about Christmas this year. They have their orders in for their favorite toys already. Aaron is praying hard for a bicycle.
We are starting to plan our Annual Christmas Program for the Bonfal Community. Many of our older kids are planning to come home to help us. First we have a Church Service for the neighborhood, the kids perform in skits and have song services, then we serve a lunch with plenty of Christmas foods, spaghetti, pancit, cookies, fruit salad, etc., and then finish off the day playing parlour games with everyone, old and young! It’s a day we all look forward to and by evening we are all very exhausted but fulfilled. All of the kids that have grown up in the Children’s Home are now the ones that organize the activities. It’s a fun day for everyone. Some years we have had a reenactment of the Nativity using our babies and toddlers. I wish all of you could come and join us during the Holidays some year. That is an open invitation.

BIG KIDS ……..
Several of our older kids are working in Manila in Call Centers and won’t be able to come home for the Christmas Celebration. We are so happy they have good jobs but we will miss them.
As we go into this Christmas Season and know that “Jesus is the Reason for this Wonderful Season”, I want to wish all of you out there a Merry, Spirit filled Christmas and thank you for your faithful prayers, encouraging notes, partnership, and love gifts over this past year.

MY SPECIAL BLESSINGS:
• I’m back in the Philiuppines
• Wonderful warm weather
• Many are coming for Christmas Program on 25th
• Our church is growing.
• My broken ankle is healing well & I’m walking w/o pain.
• Everything is running smoothly at the Children’s Home.
• I’m beginning to get over jet lag!
PRAYER REQUESTS:
• William Bilog 2nd surgery
• Baby Gabe surgery on head
• Christmas Program
• Forever families for Aaron, Angelito, Reah and Joanna
• My family in the States
• Older boys

Thank you again for all your prayers during this past year . God is so good and faithful …. And so are all of YOU! Thank you for your faithful support of prayer and love offerings for this ministry. My prayer is that you might someday be able to visit and see the work you have contributed to. I love you all …… But better yet ………………….
GOD LOVES YOU AND SENT HIS SON TO SAVE YOU! God Bless ….. In His Service,
Kay Davidson

SOLANO CHILDREN'S HOME
Jan & Feb, 2019

Hello everyone!

I would like to invite you to come visit us here in the sunny Philippines! I know most of you in the United States are having very cold weather and lots of snow. I’m very sorry to hear that but very happy I’m not there “enduring” it with you all. 😊

The family here at the Children’s Home sends our greetings to all of you. We think we are cold here because it sometimes dips down to 69 degrees. I know all you will scoff at that but we are really cold. Actually it’s as cold as I want to be too. 😊

On a more serious note, I want to thank all of you that shared with us so generously over the Christmas holidays. We had a lovely holiday with many of the older kids returning to be with us for at least a few days. Peter and Paul, two of the triplets, had to work and also Gilbert didn’t get time off. They all work in call centers and that is a busy time for them. James and James Paul and Francisco were here and a couple of the older kids with families and they all helped us with all the preparations.

Our two boys, Aaron and Angelito, are both 7 years old now and they had a great time with all the fun things over Christmas. Rhea and her husband came over with her two kids; Nelia who is working with YWAM came with her little boy; Joel and Starla came up from Manila with their son; Reynaldo and his wife came from the north with their daughter and new baby and Ian who is preaching now in a church in Baguio area came also and gave our Christmas story on Christmas eve before we opened gifts. All their little ones are about the same age so it was a boisterous time for all.

Christmas day we had about 130 people come for the Program which involved a lot of singing, preaching, games, food, food, food, more games and skits. We had a visitor from Manila that bought a lechon for the Party. That is a 30 lb slow roasted pig. We all enjoyed that a lot too. All had a good time the visitors from the neighborhood enjoyed the special sacks of candies, a bowl or cup, and an apple as they left. They loved the lechon too. The older boys took over and ran the Program and the games and everything went very smoothly. Even though I really didn’t have to do that much work I was exhausted by the end of the day but happily exhausted.

Aaron was so excited to get a little plastic watch from one of the aunties. That gave him more pleasure than the matchbox cars he received. That is what I love about little kids. So easy to please.

This year there were not many fireworks on New Years Eve because it was raining so we got a good rest that night. January went by so quickly I hardly knew it was here. Three boxes arrived just 2 weeks after Christmas that were sent from one of our supporting chuches in the Midwest. Thank you Sue and all the ladies that worked so hard to prepare the things. It was an exciting time for our young people during our Youth meeting and they all were able to choose something from the things. They loved it.

Aaron and Angelito are still waiting for a “forever family”. It’s difficult when they have some special needs but they are both such loving happy little boys and they are growing and coping with the disabilities that they have. They both regularly attend speech therapy and Angelito is attending Special Education kinder while Aaron will be beginning 1st grade next year in regular classes. He’s improving in his speech very quickly and asking so many questions that we sometimes wonder why we complained. 😊

We have been able to continue with our Community Outreach Program and are helping over several children and young people in various ways. Our newest child was born just 2 months ago (Gabriel) and his mother is having kidney dialysis twice a week so she’s not able to nurse. His grandmother brought him to see if we might be able to help. We have committed to provide his milk and our social worker is helping them to find financial help for the mother to continue her treatments. She is only 34 years old. He also needs some medical treatments for a small growth on his forehead and we are helping them find the necessary doctor and helping them with the treatments.

James Paul Humiwat who was raised in the Children’s Home is now back with us. He is Deaf and has previously been able to do handyman work outside of the Home but presently he is having some major physical problems and is not able to work at all. We have been helping him and now he is actually receiving a small stipend from the government for his disability which helps with his medicines. Our social worker is helping him to qualify for a small allowance that will help him also provide for his basic needs. In the meantime, he is staying with us and helping in small ways for his room and board. He is also teaching Angelito and the workers sign language which has been a great help to all of us.

One of the babies we had last year (Alisha) is in the final stage of her adoption process and our social worker made her last home visit to approve the family. She is a very happy baby with a wonderful family and we feel so blessed to have been a part of her life. We miss having the little babies in our Home but praise God they have their families now.

We have a retired missionary lady staying with us for a few months and she is helping with the church across the street. We are praying the church will be able to buy a small parcel of land to build a church as we are now renting and the people are always threatening to come back and take over their house and lot. Our church is slowly growing. We have many young people and slowly are church is growing.

The days go by quickly and they seem to be filled with lots of things to get done. We are preparing to paint many of the rooms here in the Children’s Home and also part of the outside building. It’s been 5 years since some of the rooms have been painted inside and even more for a few of the others. Our living room (sala) is badly in need of a fresh coat of paint so that will be the first!

I am so thankful for all we can do here. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to be able to continue to work as your missionary here in the Philippines. God is continuing to bless me with good health. I struggle some with walking too far but I can cope well. I can still drive.

Our Blessings:

· *Alisha’s final adoption hearing

· *Our boys have had few colds this year.

· *Good health for me

· *Fewer brownouts than last year

· *Two new puppies

Prayer Requests:

*Forever families for Aaron & Angelito

· *James Paul Humiwat’s health

· *Continued good health for our boys and staff.

· *Preparations for our painting project this spring.

God Bless you all, you bless me so much. And if you get too cold over there …….. come on over and visit. We’d love to have you.

In His service
