The Iglesia Filipina Independiente- Diocese of Cortes held its 12th Diocesan Convention on March 5-7, 2026 at the Mission of St. Barnabas, Matho, Cortes, Surigao del Sur. The gathering brought together clergy and lay delegates from across the diocese in a spirit of prayer, reflection, and shared responsibility for the life and mission of the Church.
Guided by the theme, βUphold Life and Dignity of Every Human Personβ (1 John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 1:10; Luke 10:37), the convention served as a synodical assembly where church leaders and representatives reflected on the Churchβs ministry and pastoral direction. A total of 129 official delegates from the 18 parishes and missions of the diocese were present and actively participated in the proceedings.
The convention was presided over by the Rt. Rev. Denny D. Dapitan, Diocesan Bishop, with the assistance of the Rev. Fr. Ruben D. Martinez, Council Vice Chairperson, together with the members of the Diocesan Council. Their leadership ensured that the convention was conducted in an orderly, prayerful, and meaningful manner.
Among the matters taken up during the assembly were the reports from the eighteen parishes and missions, the presentation of the treasurerβs report, and updates from the various sectors and standing committees of the diocese. Reports from the convention committees were likewise presented, providing a comprehensive overview of the ministries, programs, and concerns of the diocesan community. The assembly also confirmed the representatives of the Diocese of Cortes to the General Assembly of the Church.
The conduct of the synod affirmed the unity and shared commitment of the clergy and laity of the Diocese of Cortes, as the diocesan community continues its mission, the convention served as a reminder of the Churchβs calling to work together in faith and service, upholding life and safeguarding the dignity of every human person.
