πƒπˆπŽπ‚π„π’π€π 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | Clergy, lay members gather for 12th Diocesan Convention

The Iglesia Filipina Independiente- Diocese of Cortes held its 12th Diocesan Convention on March 5-7, 2026 at the Mission of St. Barnabas, Matho, Cortes, Surigao del Sur. The gathering brought together clergy and lay delegates from across the diocese in a spirit of prayer, reflection, and shared responsibility for the life and mission of the Church.

Guided by the theme, β€œUphold Life and Dignity of Every Human Person” (1 John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 1:10; Luke 10:37), the convention served as a synodical assembly where church leaders and representatives reflected on the Church’s ministry and pastoral direction. A total of 129 official delegates from the 18 parishes and missions of the diocese were present and actively participated in the proceedings.

The convention was presided over by the Rt. Rev. Denny D. Dapitan, Diocesan Bishop, with the assistance of the Rev. Fr. Ruben D. Martinez, Council Vice Chairperson, together with the members of the Diocesan Council. Their leadership ensured that the convention was conducted in an orderly, prayerful, and meaningful manner.

Among the matters taken up during the assembly were the reports from the eighteen parishes and missions, the presentation of the treasurer’s report, and updates from the various sectors and standing committees of the diocese. Reports from the convention committees were likewise presented, providing a comprehensive overview of the ministries, programs, and concerns of the diocesan community. The assembly also confirmed the representatives of the Diocese of Cortes to the General Assembly of the Church.

The conduct of the synod affirmed the unity and shared commitment of the clergy and laity of the Diocese of Cortes, as the diocesan community continues its mission, the convention served as a reminder of the Church’s calling to work together in faith and service, upholding life and safeguarding the dignity of every human person.

π—¦π—£π—’π—§π—Ÿπ—œπ—šπ—›π—§ | In a meaningful show of ecumenical unity, the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) joined the celebration of the 123rd Proclamation Anniversary of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente on August 2, 2025 at Poblacion, Cortes Gymnasium.

Represented by Pastor Titus Jun Reveche and Rev. Joel Mantilla, the UCCP Associate Conference of Surigao delivered a heartfelt message of solidarity, affirming the deep bond between both churches and their shared mission of serving God and the people. Pastor Titus conveyed their warm greetings and praised IFI’s steadfast witness to freedom, justice, and service over the decades.

This year’s celebration was made even more meaningful by the recognition of the 26th anniversary of the Covenant Partnership between UCCP and IFIβ€”an enduring symbol of mutual faith, cooperation, and prophetic ministry. The solidarity message emphasized the power of unity amidst diversity, reminding everyone that the Church's mission transcends traditions and flourishes through collective struggle for peace, human rights, and the reign of God’s justice and love.

π—œπ—‘ 𝗣𝗛𝗒𝗧𝗒𝗦 | Following the meaningful celebration of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente’s 123rd Proclamation Anniversary and 10th Diocesan Thanksgiving Day, the Diocese of Cortes gathers once moreβ€”this time around the tableβ€”for a spirit-filled fellowship lunch. United in faith and gratitude, clergy, lay members, and delegates come together to share not only food, but stories, laughter, and the joy of community.

This fellowship meal is a celebration of kinship, a moment to strengthen bonds, and a reflection of the Church’s mission to walk together in unity and love. As plates are filled and hearts are warmed, we are reminded that the table of fellowship is where faith becomes tangible, and communion becomes lived experience.
