SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT- CANDLE OF PEACE
As we move into the second week of Advent, we light the second candle on the wreath, known as the Bethlehem Candle or the Candle of Peace. This candle reminds us of the profound peace that Christ brings into a world yearning for hope and restoration. It also recalls the humble journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, trusting in God’s promise and walking faithfully toward the Savior’s birth.
Lighting this candle invites us to reflect on the true meaning of peace—not merely the absence of conflict, but a deep, lasting serenity that renews hearts, restores relationships, and strengthens our faith. It is a call to welcome the Prince of Peace into our lives and to share His peace with all around us.
Readings for the Second Sunday of Advent
First Reading: Isaiah 11:1–10 — A prophecy of the Messiah who will rule with justice and bring lasting peace to all nations.
Responsorial Psalm: “He shall live in splendor, and peace shall flourish forever.”
Second Reading: Romans 15:4–9 — A reminder that Christ came for all, calling us to unity, harmony, and peace with one another.
Gospel: Matthew 3:1–12 — John the Baptist prepares the way for the Lord, who brings true peace and salvation.
As we light the Candle of Peace, may Christ calm our anxieties, heal our wounds, and guide us toward reconciliation. May His peace dwell within our homes and shine through our words and actions this Advent season.
