Today, the Church celebrates Pentecost Sunday, which is known as the "birthday" of the Christian Church. This feast occurs exactly 50 days after Easter Sunday and marks the official end of the Easter season.

Historically, Pentecost began as a Jewish harvest festival called Shavuot, which took place 50 days after Passover. According to the New Testament Book of Acts, Jesusโ€™ disciples were gathered in Jerusalem for this festival when the Holy Spirit descended upon them. The event was marked by the sound of a rushing wind and the appearance of tongues of fire resting on each person. This divine encounter miraculously enabled the Apostles to speak in different languages, allowing visitors from various nations to understand their preaching.

Pentecost is spiritual empowerment and unity. It marks the moment the Apostles shifted from hiding in fear to boldly sharing their faith with the world. For Christians today, the celebration signifies that God lives within believers through the Holy Spirit and unites people across all cultural and language barriers. During church services today, priests wear red vestments to symbolize the fire of the Holy Spirit and the passion of the early Church.
