The terms practice and rehearsal are related, but they are not exactly the same.
PRACTICE
Practice is the act of improving individual skills through repetition and study. It focuses on learning, correcting mistakes, and developing technique.
Example:
-A choir member practices vocal exercises at home.
-An instrumentalist practices scales or difficult passages.
REHEARSAL
Rehearsal is the organized preparation for an actual performance, usually done as a group. It focuses on coordination, timing, expression, and readiness for presentation.
Example:
-The choir rehearses together before Mass.
-Musicians rehearse the Entrance Song with the choir director.
SIMPLE DIFFERENCE
Practice = improving personal skill
Rehearsal = preparing together for actual performance
For a church choir:
- You practice your part personally.
-You rehearse with the whole choir for the liturgy.
