FOR YOU YOUNG PEOPLE

You have a lot of things fighting for your attention these days. You have much more access to "content" than any other generation before you.

Just like all of us, you need advice. But you young people need it more readily. Not because you are dumb (far from it!), but because you're just beginning your journey through life, and life is extremely complex.

The writer of Ecclesiastes in the Bible says this (11:9-10),

"Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do. So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember that youth, with a whole life before you, is meaningless.

Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, 'Life is not pleasant anymore...'

Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don’t wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well.

For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 11:9-10; 12:1, 6-7 NLT)

What is the advice for young people from the Bible here?

1. Enjoy your youth - it is a gift from God!
2. Savor your youth - it won't last forever!
3. Do what you want - but know you are accountable to God!
4. Do what you do morally and with integrity - that's what God wants!
5. Be healthy in body and mind - don't stress about what you can't control!
6. Choose not just for your youth - choose also for your future!
7. Be excited about the things of youth - but don't forget the things of God!
8. Honor God in your youth - don't wait until you're old, cynical, and dead!

Young people, God cares about you.
Young people, God wants the best for you.
Young people, God wants to know you personally.

Love your youth, enjoy your youth, act morally, be a person of integrity, live healthily in mind, body, and spirit, make good choices now and for the future, be excited, and, most important of all, honor God with your youth!

Your youth is a gift.

Use it well.

HE TOOK OUR SHAME

And hung it on the cross, to crucify it, conquer it, and raise new life from the dead (Romans 6:6ff).

What we once were, He became.
What we once were, He defeated.
What we once were, He makes new.

The cross of Christ is the redemption of humanity.

He exchanged places with us, so that His mercy might flow THROUGH us.

And when He was laid up on the cross, sin, demons, and death were being defeated.

Bring your all to Jesus.

He will take your sin and give you His righteousness.

Lay it down at His feet.

But he endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God. But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received.

All of us were like sheep that were lost, each of us going his own way. But the LORD made the punishment fall on him, the punishment all of us deserved.

He was treated harshly, but endured it humbly; he never said a word. Like a lamb about to be slaughtered, like a sheep about to be sheared, he never said a word. He was arrested and sentenced and led off to die, and no one cared about his fate. He was put to death for the sins of our people. He was placed in a grave with those who are evil, he was buried with the rich, even though he had never committed a crime or ever told a lie.

The LORD says, “It was my will that he should suffer; his death was a sacrifice to bring forgiveness. And so he will see his descendants; he will live a long life, and through him my purpose will succeed. After a life of suffering, he will again have joy; he will know that he did not suffer in vain. My devoted servant, with whom I am pleased, will bear the punishment of many and for his sake I will forgive them. And so I will give him a place of honor, a place among the great and powerful. He willingly gave his life and shared the fate of evil men. He took the place of many sinners and prayed that they might be forgiven.”

Isaiah 53:4-12

HOW CAN HE LOVE ME

That is one of the deepest questions us Christians can ask.

We know God is perfect, and we also know we have cursed God with our mouths and our actions by hurting others and hurting ourselves.
..and yet God loves us relentlessly anyway.

He knows everything about us.
He knows everything we've done.
He knows everything we've thought.

Yet despite what He knows, He loves us.

And nothing can separate us from this love (Romans 8:35-39). Nothing.

The deepest truth we could uncover is why God would do this. Why would God love somebody like me?

It's all because who God is.

God IS love.

That's the fundamental nature of His character. He isn't just "loving." He doesn't just "love" people.

He IS love.

He can love someone like us because it is in His very nature to love, and Christ made that a reality through His life, death, and resurrection.

Christ loves you.

Come to Him.
