St. Tarcisius pray for us

In the dark days of Roman persecution under Emperor Valerian, a brave 12-year-old acolyte named Tarcisius served at the secret Masses held in the catacombs.

Christians condemned to death in prison still longed to receive the Body of Christ.

When no deacon could safely go, young Tarcisius volunteered. He was entrusted with the sacred Hosts, carefully wrapped and carried close to his heart.

On his way, a pagan mob — some even his former playmates — stopped him and demanded he hand over the "Christian mysteries."

Tarcisius refused. He would rather die than expose the Blessed Sacrament to desecration. The furious crowd beat him mercilessly with sticks and stones until he gave up his spirit — protecting Jesus in the Eucharist with his last breath.

When the Christians recovered his body, the sacred Hosts had miraculously disappeared. St. Tarcisius had successfully guarded the Real Presence until the end.

His heroic witness shows us the immense value of the Eucharist and the courage required to reverence and protect it.

Today, he is invoked as the patron saint of altar servers and First Communicants, inspiring young people and all the faithful to serve at the altar with love, purity, and devotion.
