When Disaster Reminds Us What Truly Matters

“DISASTER reminds us that EARTHLY THINGS ARE TEMPORARY, but GOD’S PROMISES ARE ETERNAL.”

The devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26, 2026, swept through communities, destroying homes, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. Reports say the disaster was triggered by a glacial collapse and caused catastrophic flooding along the Nepal–Tibet border, with many lives lost and hundreds still missing. Rescue and relief efforts continue.

1. Earthly possessions are temporary.

A house can be destroyed. Roads and bridges can be washed away. Material possessions can disappear in a moment. Disaster reminds us that the things we build on earth are not permanent.

Matthew 24:35 KJV
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

2. God’s promises remain when everything else is shaken.

When people lose homes, security, and possessions, they can still hold on to the promises of God. Our hope is not ultimately found in buildings or earthly things, but in the Lord.
Psalm 46:1 KJV

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

3. Disaster should move us to compassion and prayer.

The suffering in Nepal is not merely something to watch—it should remind Christians to pray for the victims, families, rescuers, and communities affected, and to help when opportunities arise.

We cannot control every storm, flood, or disaster, but we can choose where we place our hope. Earthly things can be taken away in a moment, but God’s Word, His presence, and His promises remain forever.
