Week 3: EROS โ Romantic Love
Text: Ephesians 5 (NLT)
Eros love is romantic, passionate, and intimate love.
The world often defines eros as desire without responsibility.
But in Ephesians 5, God reveals that romantic loveโespecially in marriageโis meant to reflect Christโs love for the church.
Eros is not just about attraction; it is about sacrificial, faithful, and committed love.
Romantic love (eros) is elevated from mere passion to a holy picture of Christ and the Church.
Points: HOW TO SHOW EROS LOVE?
1. Submission
Ephesians 5:21 (NLT)
โSubmit to one another out of reverence for Christ.โ
Romantic love is not about control but cooperation
Both husband and wife choose humility
Love grows where respect is mutual
Biblical eros begins with honor.
2. Sacrifice
Ephesians 5:25 (NLT)
โHusbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her.โ
Love is proven by sacrifice, not just words
Eros is not demanding; it is giving
Christlike love creates emotional and physical safety
True passion includes sacrifice.
3. Compassion
Ephesians 5:28โ29 (NLT)
โHusbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodiesโฆ feeds and cares for it.โ
Romantic love includes care, tenderness, and attention
Physical intimacy flows from emotional care
Love seeks the well-being of the other
Eros nurtures, not neglects.
Application
Husbands: Love intentionally, sacrificially, and consistently
Wives: Respond with respect, encouragement, and partnership
Couples: Protect your intimacy by centering it on Christ
Conclusion
Eros love is not just physical attractionโit is covenant love with passion.
When romantic love is shaped by Christ, it becomes deep, joyful, faithful, and lasting.
Marriage is where eros becomes worship.
