β€œWhoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” β€” Matthew 16:24

Following Christ means choosing Him each dayβ€”denying ourselves, embracing our crosses, and faithfully walking in His footsteps. May we never be afraid to carry our cross, for it is the path that leads us closer to Him.

AUGUST 28 | MEMORIAL OF ST. AUGUSTINE

β€œLate have I loved You, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new.”

St. Augustine reminds us that our hearts will always be restless until they find their rest in God. We may spend years searching for happiness, fulfillment, and love in many places, but God has been there all alongβ€”patiently waiting and calling us home.

May we, like St. Augustine, discover anew the beauty of God and learn to love Him above all things.

With grateful hearts, we gathered as one community to celebrate the Feast Day Mass in honor of our patron saint, San Ignacio de Loyola.

We also joyfully witnessed the Blessing of the Jubilee Doorβ€”a sacred sign of God’s mercy, hope, and abundant grace. May all who pass through it be renewed in faith and inspired to walk ever closer with Christ.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our beloved bishop, Most Rev. Raul B. Dael, and to the entire Tandag clergy for celebrating this sacred occasion with us.

"We do not serve in order to be blessed. We serve because we have been blessed."

In his homily during the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola at San Ignacio de Loyola Parish, Bayabas, Surigao del Sur, on July 31, 2026, Bishop Raul reminded the faithful of an essential truth of our Catholic faith.

He explained that we sometimes fall into the mistaken idea: "I will serve the Church so that God will bless me." He called this wrong theology, because the Catholic Church does not teach that we earn God's blessings through our service.

Rather, authentic Catholic teaching tells us that we serve because God has already blessed us. Our generosity, commitment, and love for the Church are not a way of bargaining with Godβ€”they are our grateful response to His grace. Our service is living proof that we have already received His blessings.

May we always serve, not to earn God's love, but because we have already experienced it.

Today, we joyfully celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the 25th Silver Jubilee of our beloved parish.

As we thank God for 25 years of grace and faithfulness, may the example of our patron inspire us to seek God in all things, serve with generous hearts, and live for the greater glory of God.
