WHY SPEND TIME WITH GOD?

KJV Bible. Ephesians 1:4
[4]According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

In the busyness of everyday life, spending time with GOD can often fall to the bottom of the to-do list. In fact, it can start to feel like just one more chore you need to do.

If you’ve been feeling this way lately, it may be because you’ve been thinking about it all wrong. You see, you don’t spend time with GOD for HIS benefit or to appease HIM somehow; you spend time with GOD because it benefits you!

Maybe you’ve forgotten how energizing and empowering it is to spend time with GOD and to read HIS Word. Or maybe you’ve overcomplicated things, and have turned something beautiful and natural into something of a ritual that you’ve become bored with.

The truth is, time with GOD can be as natural and normal as time with any friend.

Although you can’t see HIM, you can talk to HIM using natural, everyday language. You may not hear an audible voice, but you might get a sense of HIS answers deep inside you—similar to a gut feeling.

Another way you might sense HIS leading is through a sense of peace about a certain direction or decision. HE also leads you through HIS Word. Certain concepts jump out at you as you read them, or come to mind when you have a decision to make.

Instead of making time with GOD a chore on your to-do list, try just talking to HIM periodically as you go about your day today. HE cares about everything you’re doing and wants to guide you in your everyday life.

BE ENCOURAGED BY LIVING WITH A PURPOSE

KJV Bible. Ephesians 1:11-12
[11]In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
[12]That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

One of the best ways to stay encouraged in life is to live with purpose. When things get tough and you face problems, having a purpose you believe in can take you through, especially if we’re talking about the cause of JESUS CHRIST.

Many times, we don’t want to hear that living for JESUS’ cause is the key. We fall for the lies that say that if you just build your own life and have fun, you’ll be happy. However, if all we do is eat, drink, be merry and pursue the good life, it leads to emptiness because we are leaving out the purposes of GOD.

Serving JESUS gives us purpose. HE has called us to lead people to HIM and to make disciples. Why does HIS cause trump all others? Because charities can feed the poor, activist groups can initiate change, good government can implement systems and structures, but none of these can change the heart of even one person. Only JESUS can do that, which is why we need to bring the hope that is found in HIM to the world.

If you want to stay encouraged, live your life with purpose—a purpose that is tied in to the cause of JESUS CHRIST. I’m not saying that we all need to become pastors and missionaries. You can get involved right where you are just by being kind to those around you and sharing your story of how JESUS changed your life.

WHEN SOMEONE'S GOING THROUGH DIFFICULTIES

KJV Bible. Colossians 1:11
[11]Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.

The Voice version of the Bible puts it this way: “We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength GOD gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the FATHER who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that HE has for us.”

TIME AND CHANCE HAPPEN TO US

KJB Bible. Ecclesiastes 9:11
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

Today's verse is interesting. It shows us that no matter who's faster, stronger or wiser, in a way all of us are on an equal playing field. Why? Because time and chance happen to everyone.

Now, it's obvious that nobody can stop time. But what does this verse mean by "chance"? In the Greek, it's the word "pega," which means a sudden occurrence.

But God is always there to bring "sudden occurrences" into your life. The difference is, He wants to pour out unexpected blessing, favour and divine appointments. He wants you to be able to look at a situation and say, "Wow, this could only be God!"

Regardless of your talent, skills or level of success, chance occurrences will take place in your life. Satan would like nothing more than for these occurrences to be destructive. But as a child of God, you are protected when these attacks come. And the chance occurrences that your Father brings into your life will surprise you with His goodness!

THE KEY TO RESISTING

KJV Bible. 1 Peter 5:8-9
[8]Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
[9]Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

As believers, we are empowered to resist what isn’t from God. We’ve been given the spirit of faith inside us, which never quits. No matter what we are up against, we have the power to rise up, to learn, grow, love and to fight the good fight of faith.

The enemy doesn’t have the power to destroy you. All he can do is try to get us to give in, to stop trying, to stop believing God’s promises.

How do we resist his lies? Well, when the devil tried to trick Jesus into following his advice when Jesus was fasting in the desert, Jesus responded by quoting God’s Word every time. This sends a powerful message. We have a choice. We can submit to the enemy’s lies or to God’s Word. Submitting to the enemy’s ideas and schemes always leads to destruction, but when we submit to the truth of God’s Word, we get in on His power and strength.

You can resist the enemy’s lies by claiming God’s promises. When you do, you’ll discover that God’s power and strength rises up within you, pushing aside the negative and connecting you to His awesome promises for your life.

FAITH MEANS PUSHING THROUGH

KJV Bible. Mark 5:34
[34]And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

The Subborn Faith

In Mark 5, we find the account of the woman who came to Jesus for healing from continual bleeding. What I want you to notice is that the Bible says she pushed her way through a large crowd on her way to Jesus.

Why is this important? There will be times in your life you will have to push through when you want to quit, whether that’s in school, in your career, in your relationships or in taking back your health.

Whenever you feel as if things are falling apart, that’s the time to push through—past doubt, pain, tiredness or a negative diagnosis. Then hold tight to the faith-building, life-giving promises of God’s Word, which is how you bring the experience of those promises into your life.

There will be times when you need to push through to the promises of God. To build stubborn faith, you’ll need to get tenacious about reading and meditating upon God’s promises in the Bible, about listening to messages that teach you about what is yours in Christ, and about getting out to church even when you don’t feel like it.

Stubborn faith involves pushing through whatever you’re facing to the promises of God’s Word. It’s through the power of His Word— it’s power to renew your mind—that you’ll begin to walk in the miraculous!

FORGET THE PAST AND PRESS ON

KJV Bible. Philippians 3:13
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

In a storm, one of the greatest temptations we face is to focus on the past and give in to defeat.

Today’s verse says to forget what’s behind and press forward. It’s easier to dwell on our heartaches and never heal or move on. But we can’t camp out in a place of mourning and think there are no more opportunities or blessings coming our way.

Now don’t get me wrong. Moving forward doesn’t mean we forget those we love or what we’ve learned from past mistakes.

Decide that the best of your life is still to come. In this fallen world, we all deal with weakness and failure. But God designed you to walk in His strength. Focus your eyes forward and step into the incredible future He has for you!

180° TURN

KJV Bible.Romans 2:4
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

What is repentance?

Repentance means to turn or change your mind and do differently. It’s an inward turning that goes beyond regret. Some reports even claim that “repent” was a Roman military command which called for a 180° turn or an “about face.”

The power in repentance is in turning away from evil and back to God. Giving our lives to Christ and realizing we’re loved and forgiven through Him activates change. You see, discovering Biblical truths is transformational: the old sins and desires that once held us captive begin to lose their appeal as a new mindset begins to take root.

Filling your mind and heart with God’s Word plants seeds of truth, and change begins to happen. This power in us begins to renew our mind (Romans 12:2) and transform our lives.

Growing God’s truths in your heart turns your mind back on Him and His goodness for you!

GET A CLEAR PICTURE

KJV Bible. Joshua 1:8
[8]This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

If you want something different to happen in your life in an area where you struggle, you need a new picture. A promise in the Bible is actually of no use to you until you meditate on it to change the picture you hold inside.

Meditation, also called visualization, is a Biblical principle. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” You need to be able to imagine where you’re going if you want to get there.

As you read our verse today, I want you to notice what it does not say. It does not say pray and GOD will give you success. It says you make your way prosperous. To experience the beauty and goodness our LORD JESUS CHRIST our GOD has for you—the friendships, family, health, finances and career—you must get a new picture.

As you imagine a promise from GOD coming true, your heart grabs hold of the positive picture and hangs onto it. GOD has designed your heart to bring the miracle into your life when you visualize the end result.

Try it today. What are you struggling with? Find promises in GOD’s Word to hang on to. Visualize what your life would be like if you already had that promise, and thank GOD for it. HOLY SPIRIT will help that picture to become clearer every time you meditate on it until it eventually comes to pass.

WHEN SOMEONE'S GOING THROUGH DIFFICULTIES

KJV Bible. Colossians 1:11
[11]Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.

Do you know of a believer who is going through a tough time?

First, let’s think about what it says. In this scripture, Paul is praying for other believers, that they be invigorated and strengthened, but what he says next is interesting. This strength isn’t something he’s praying down from above; it’s “according to the might of HIS glory,” which is within every believer.

If the people we are praying for are believers, they have this strength within them! With that in mind, we might pray for them this way: “Father, thank you for invigorating and strengthening them with all power, not according to their strength or capabilities, but according to the might of your glory. Help them to become more aware of your strength in them, and help them to see that they are empowered to endure the unendurable, and they can even maintain their joy, no matter what they’re facing today.”
