The Kingdom of Heaven is Like a Treasure Buried in a Field – Matthew 13:44-46

This is one of the parables that Jesus told to his disciples.

First, what is the purpose of parables?
One of which is in order to awaken the curiosity of the people as a test of faith to God.

Three underlying questions we would be asking ourselves why the kingdom of heaven was explained in the gospel.

It is about our destiny - to go back to God. Thus, Jesus serves as the instrument through his teachings to remind ourselves focus on seeking the Kingdom of God for it is with the real value not the wealth we find on earth.

Amen.

Jesus Feeds 5000 Men With 5 Loaves of Bread and 2 Fish – Matthew 14:16-21

Three things we need to ponder here.

1. The power of one.
One evil act or thought can affect a community / one good act or thought can bless a community.
Let's pray that we can be that "one" like the boy who brought the loaves of bread and fish, that any one of us too can bring good to community and take away the curse of evil.

2. The best resource is human resource.
Resource is asset. The best asset is human resource.
Remember when Jesus asked the disciples "where will we buy food for people to eat?"
Philip answered "we can ask the people to go home."
Jesus answered "if we have people we still can have something to provide."
Encourage one another as part of the church so we are able to share our skills, talents in order to establish a blessed community.

3. Giving is not the power of pocket. But it is the power of the heart.
Money is there but the problem is the fear of taking them out from the pocket.
No matter how big the amount of money in your bank account is but you have no generous heart you are still poor.

When you give you are creating space for God so He will bless you with more.

Amen.

What does it take to be a good shepherd?

1. Live with SACRIFICE. It is not selective to those who serve the church but all are called to partake in continuing the mission of Jesus to even deny ourselves for others through our TIME while we live and TREASURES as fruits of our labor that all come from God. It is only right to give back to Him even a portion of these blessings.

2. Live with SENSE OF LOOSING. No matter how many sheep are left from among you look after, the lost ones must be found. No one should be left behind because a good shepherd is an instrument of salvation including the weak or lost. By the mercy of God, sometimes it takes to get out of our comfort zone only to fulfill the mission in keeping and saving the flock. No difficult roads can hinder to deliver the message and love of God.

3. Live by being a good FOLLOWER. As a good shepherd, learn to listen to His voice and obey. God is the source of our existence and truth. The truth that even our doubt has no space in our hearts to believe Him.

Gospel – Luke 24:35-40
35 The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way, and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread.

36 While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

37 But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost.

38 Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts?

39 Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.”

40 And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

This is a test of faith that teaches us...

that courage is not the absence of fear.

that humility is not a sign of weakness.

that peace is not the absence of conflict.

that it is all about the presence of God.

Mercy remains just a noun
unless it is put into action.

In Filipino context it is more given with an emphasis through gentle response in commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Thus, mercy comes in 4 Ps as form of response.

PAGBABAHAGINAN (act of sharing and belongingness)
PAGPAPATAWAD (act of forgiveness)
PANANAMPALATAYA (act of faith)
PAGMIMISYON (act of discipleship)
