The rhythm of work and rest is embedded in creation and in our humanity. We were created to work for six days for God's glory and to rest on the Sabbath to worship God and have him renew us through the means of grace.
If we fail to worship, we dehumanize ourselves. Rather than embracing and living out our identity as image-bearers of God, we reduce ourselves to money-making machines who are slaves of this materialistic world.
Jesus came so that we would no longer bear the burden of earning our worth through our religious attainments, achievements in school or at work, and social status. He came so that we might have rest in him, since in him we already have the validation we ultimately need.
Let us wage war against the works-based system of this world by resting on the Lord's Day. We not carabaos with yokes on our necks; we are children of the living God made for worship.
Enjoy Jesus today! π
