Different dioceses. Different ministries. One mission: to make Christ heard in the digital world.

From conversations on AI and authentic communication to practical workshops on cybersecurity, media literacy, and digital evangelization โ€” Communicating Christ became a historic gathering of Church communicators across Bikol. The event was a response of the Bikolnon Church to the call of Pope Leo XIVโ€™s message to the 60th World Day of Social Communications.

Held yesterday at the Archbishop Legaspi Hall of the Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia Minor Basilica and National Shrine, the conference gathered 239 registered participants composed of parish SocCom representatives from across the Archdiocese of Caceres, delegates from neighboring dioceses in the Bikol Region, SocCom volunteers, students, educators, and collaborators from various schools and institutions.

The event may well be remembered as the first-ever regional gathering of Social Communications ministers in Bikol, united by one mission: to proclaim Christ in todayโ€™s digital continent.

The conference featured Mr. Edwin Lopez, Senior Director for Asia Pacific of EWTN Global Operations and Executive Secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Social Communications, who delivered the keynote address: โ€œReclaiming Human Voices and Faces in the Age of AI.โ€

Mr. Art Samaniego Jr., ICT Head of Manila Bulletin and cybersecurity advocate spoke on: โ€œCybersecurity Threats in the Church.โ€

Participants also joined parallel workshops on: Parish SocCom Ministry Formation, Media Literacy and Disinformation, AI for Ministry and Creative Evangelization and Social Media Marketing

Special thanks as well to our collaborators from the BISCAST, whose participation and support enriched the discussions and workshops throughout the day.

This meaningful initiative was organized through the collaboration of Episcopal Commission on Social Communications (ECSC), currently headed by Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, Caceres Commission on Communications and the Archdiocese of Caceres.

May this gathering inspire stronger collaboration among Church communicators in Bikol as we continue to communicate not ourselves, but Christ.

Strengthening the mission of evangelization amid the continuously evolving digital landscape, social communicators from across the DaDiTaMa Sub-Region (Archdiocese of Davao, Dioceses of Digos, Tagum, and Mati) gathered for the DaDiTaMa SocCom Gathering 2026 on May 16 at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium of Ateneo de Davao University in celebration of the 60th World Communications Sunday 2026.

Centered on the growing influence of technology and media, the gathering highlighted the important role of social communicators as modern-day evangelizers called to communicate truth with responsibility, integrity, and authenticity in todayโ€™s digital world.

During the session, CBCP-ECSC Executive Secretary, Mr. Edwin T. Lopez emphasized the importance of reclaiming โ€œQuality Relational Presence,โ€ reminding participants that genuine accompaniment and human connection must remain at the heart of communication ministry. He underscored that despite the rapid rise of digital platforms and Artificial Intelligence, authentic presence and Christ-centered interaction can never be replaced by technology.

Meanwhile, Mr. Alexander S. Lopez introduced participants to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and presented various tools and innovations that may assist communicators in their mission and ministry. His discussion explored both the opportunities and challenges brought by emerging technologies, encouraging communicators to maximize digital tools responsibly and creatively in service of evangelization.

Beyond technological advancements, Lopez also stressed the importance of remaining grounded in spiritual foundations as communicators navigate the complexities of the digital age. Participants were reminded that communication ministry is not merely about producing content, but about fostering truth, compassion, dialogue, and communion among people.

The DaDiTaMa SocCom Gathering 2026 ultimately affirmed that while technology and Artificial Intelligence continue to evolve, the mission of evangelization remains deeply humanโ€”centered on bringing people closer to God through authentic encounter and meaningful communication.

The gathering served not only as a learning session but also as a moment of fellowship and collaboration among social communicators across the sub-region, strengthening their shared commitment to become faithful witnesses of Christ in the digital continent.

As the Church celebrates the 60th World Day of Social Communications, Pope Leo XIV encourages Catholics to help direct technological innovation toward the truth of the human person.

โ€œI encourage everyone to commit themselves to promoting forms of communication that are always respectful of the truth of the human person, toward which every technological innovation should be directed,โ€ he said at the Regina Caeli.

In celebration of the 60th World Communications Sunday, Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Caceres, and Chairman of the CBCP โ€“ Episcopal Commission on Social Communications (CBCPโ€“ECSC), shares a meaningful message reminding communicators to become witnesses of truth, hope, and communion in todayโ€™s digital age.

As communication continues to shape the way people encounter one another, may we use every platform with responsibility, integrity, and compassion. Beyond informing minds, may our words and stories touch hearts, inspire dialogue, and bring people closer to Christ. In a world often marked by noise and division, authentic communication becomes a mission of building bridges and fostering understanding.

Watch and reflect on his message as we celebrate this yearโ€™s World Communications Sunday.

In an age where communication shapes minds and hearts, may we continue to use media responsiblyโ€”building bridges of dialogue, fostering understanding, and proclaiming the Gospel with authenticity and love. Let every story we tell and every message we share become a reflection of Christโ€™s presence in the digital continent.
