Strengthening the mission of evangelization amid the continuously evolving digital landscape, social communicators from across the DaDiTaMa Sub-Region (Archdiocese of Davao, Dioceses of Digos, Tagum, and Mati) gathered for the DaDiTaMa SocCom Gathering 2026 on May 16 at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium of Ateneo de Davao University in celebration of the 60th World Communications Sunday 2026.
Centered on the growing influence of technology and media, the gathering highlighted the important role of social communicators as modern-day evangelizers called to communicate truth with responsibility, integrity, and authenticity in todayโs digital world.
During the session, CBCP-ECSC Executive Secretary, Mr. Edwin T. Lopez emphasized the importance of reclaiming โQuality Relational Presence,โ reminding participants that genuine accompaniment and human connection must remain at the heart of communication ministry. He underscored that despite the rapid rise of digital platforms and Artificial Intelligence, authentic presence and Christ-centered interaction can never be replaced by technology.
Meanwhile, Mr. Alexander S. Lopez introduced participants to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and presented various tools and innovations that may assist communicators in their mission and ministry. His discussion explored both the opportunities and challenges brought by emerging technologies, encouraging communicators to maximize digital tools responsibly and creatively in service of evangelization.
Beyond technological advancements, Lopez also stressed the importance of remaining grounded in spiritual foundations as communicators navigate the complexities of the digital age. Participants were reminded that communication ministry is not merely about producing content, but about fostering truth, compassion, dialogue, and communion among people.
The DaDiTaMa SocCom Gathering 2026 ultimately affirmed that while technology and Artificial Intelligence continue to evolve, the mission of evangelization remains deeply humanโcentered on bringing people closer to God through authentic encounter and meaningful communication.
The gathering served not only as a learning session but also as a moment of fellowship and collaboration among social communicators across the sub-region, strengthening their shared commitment to become faithful witnesses of Christ in the digital continent.
