You can sit under faithful preaching for years
and still never truly listen.
A healthy church member does not come to church merely to consume sermons,
critique delivery,
or collect theological information.
He comes to ๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐ค๐.
โBut be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.โ
โ James 1:22
๐๐ญ๐ฅ๐ค๐จ๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐๐ก ๐ก๐๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ is not passive attention,
but active submission:
receiving Scripture with humility,
under its authority,
with a readiness to be corrected.
The Word must not only be preached faithfully,
but received obediently.
Many desire preaching that is entertaining,
motivational,
or comfortable.
But healthy Christians desire preaching that is true.
Because the goal of the sermon is not admiration.
It is ๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ฃ๐จ๐๐ค๐ง๐ข๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ.
A church grows healthy when its members stop asking,
โDid I like the sermon?โ
and begin asking,
โ๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐จ ๐๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ข๐ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐ค๐๐๐ฎ?โ
