When Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees after witnessing the disciples break a Sabbath rule, Jesus was swift to correct a misunderstanding. The Pharisees and people of the day had fallen into a pattern of strict rule-following around Sabbath rest and although those efforts to be faithful were honorable, their rigidity began to interfere with their ability to truly focus on what that gift of rest was intended to do.

These days, we may not necessarily follow the Pharisees’ strict rules about what we can’t eat or what activities are prohibited on the Sabbath. But whether you realize or not, you may have some of your own rigid ideas about what true rest looks like. Jesus reminds us that God gave us this opportunity to slow down, refocus, and reconnect with Him — we can choose what form that takes. 🌱
