St. James the Elder Cathedral Parish Holds Hybrid Parish Youth General Assembly 2026

BANGUED, ABRA — Despite the inclement weather brought about by the monsoon, the St. James the Elder Cathedral Parish Youth Ministry successfully conducted its Parish Youth General Assembly (PYGA) on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Parish Hall of St. James the Elder Cathedral Parish.

In consideration of the prevailing weather conditions, the assembly was held in a hybrid format, combining onsite and online participation. This arrangement enabled the parish youth to remain connected and actively participate in the gathering while prioritizing their safety and well-being.

The PYGA served as an important avenue for the parish youth to come together, exercise their responsibility in the ministry, receive updates from its leaders, and discuss programs and projects for the continuing growth of the youth ministry.

A major highlight of the assembly was the proclamation of the election for the Parish Youth Leader, marking an important step in strengthening the leadership and organization of the parish youth. The election provided the young people with an opportunity to participate in choosing a leader who will help represent, serve, and accompany them in their journey of faith and ministry.

The gathering also featured updates from the Parish Youth Coordinator, the KOA President, and the Parish Youth Director. Their reports and presentations gave the youth a clearer understanding of the ministry's current activities, accomplishments, concerns, and plans for the coming months.

More than an avenue for announcements and organizational matters, the PYGA became a highway for dialogue, collaboration, and discernment. The participants were given the opportunity to discuss various activities and projects for the youth ministry, while sharing their ideas, suggestions, and aspirations for the parish youth community.

The hybrid nature of the assembly also demonstrated the youth ministry's adaptability and commitment to keeping young people engaged even amid challenging circumstances. Through both physical and virtual participation, the youth remained united in their common mission of building a more active and vibrant youth ministry.

The assembly emphasized the importance of youth participation, leadership, and collaboration in the life of the parish. It also reaffirmed the parish's commitment to empowering young people to become active witnesses of faith and partners in the mission of the Church.

As the Parish Youth General Assembly concluded, the young people were encouraged to carry forward the spirit of unity and service fostered during the gathering. With renewed enthusiasm and a shared commitment, the parish youth look forward to the implementation of forthcoming activities and projects that will nurture their faith, strengthen their fellowship, and deepen their involvement in the Church.

The successful conduct of the 2026 Parish Youth General Assembly marks another meaningful milestone for the St. James the Elder Cathedral Parish Youth Ministry, proving that even unfavorable circumstances cannot hinder young people from gathering, discerning, leading, and journeying together in faith.

July 31, 2026 — The Parish Youth Ministry Core Team gathered on the evening of July 31 for a productive planning meeting to discuss the ministry's direction and upcoming initiatives for the remaining months of 2026.
The meeting was led by the Parish Youth Director, Rev. Allan Flores, together with the Parish Youth Coordinator, Joren Fernandez, and attended by the members of the Core Team. The gathering focused on evaluating the ministry's current programs, identifying priorities, and formulating plans that will strengthen youth participation and spiritual formation in the parish.

Throughout the meeting, the Core Team addressed key agenda items with meaningful discussions and collaborative decision-making. Members shared ideas and recommendations aimed at enhancing upcoming activities, leadership development, and outreach initiatives, reflecting their shared commitment to serving the young people of the parish.

A highlight of the evening was the opportunity to meet with the Parish Administrator, Rev. Fr. Sanny John Paguio, who presented his vision and proposals for the continued growth of both the Parish Youth Ministry and the parish community. His words of encouragement and guidance inspired the Core Team to remain steadfast in their mission of nurturing young people in faith, service, and leadership.

The meeting concluded with renewed enthusiasm and a unified commitment to work together in implementing the ministry's plans for the months ahead. Guided by the support of the parish leadership and the dedication of its youth leaders, the Parish Youth Ministry looks forward to a fruitful and grace-filled remainder of 2026.
