The Epiphany of the Lord

We are all called by the Lightโ€”not to walk alone, but to journey together.

The three offerings remind us of our purpose:
Gold โ€“ fidelity and commitment,
Incense โ€“ prayer and devotion,
Myrrh โ€“ sacrifice and self-giving love.

They are a reminder that even in the darkest moments, light still existsโ€”there is always light after the darkness.

May we become stars for one another wherever we may be in the world. Let us never be the cause of darkness; instead, may we be channels of light.

No matter how deep the darkness is, there will always be one true Star(Jesus),who shines to guide us and give us light. โœจ

FIRST FRIDAY OF THE YEAR

The first Friday of the year is a special day for many Catholics, as it is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This devotion emphasizes Jesus' love and compassion for humanity, and it is often marked by prayer, Eucharistic adoration, and acts of reparation.

One year of grace, service, and grateful hearts. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Today, we joyfully celebrate one year of serving at the Lordโ€™s altar during the term of Rev. Fr. Jose Novelino Iguillo. What began as a simple โ€œyesโ€ to God has grown into a year filled with learning, discipline, friendship, and faith.

โ€œFor the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve.โ€
Mark 10:45

Still a sakristan in 2026.

Serving at the altar is not just a role, itโ€™s a commitment, a calling, and a blessing I choose to carry forward. Through the years, through tired days, busy schedules, and personal struggles, I remain, because service is where my faith is strengthened and my purpose is reminded. Being a sakristan taught us discipline, humility, patience, and love for God and His people.

As 2026 comes, we continue to serve not because it is easy, but because it is meaningful. This is our way of giving back, of staying grounded, and of answering His call. Still serving. Still faithful. Still grateful. ๐Ÿ™โ›ช

โœ๏ธ The Lordโ€™s Prayerโ€”the Our Fatherโ€”holds a unique and sacred place in the Holy Mass.

It is the prayer taught by Christ Himself, prayed immediately before Holy Communion, and offered not as a private devotion but as the common prayer of the Church.

Yet in recent decades, questions have arisen among Catholics:

To answer this faithfully, we must look at history, liturgical law, pastoral guidance, and charity.

In the Roman Catholic liturgical tradition, the proper posture of the faithful during the Lordโ€™s Prayer is hands joined or folded at the chest, known in Latin as "Manibus iunctis" or hands joined ๐Ÿ™.

This posture expresses:
โœ…Reverence
โœ…Humility
โœ…Interior recollection
โœ…Unity of body and soul in prayer

It has long been the customary posture of the laity during common prayers of the Mass.

The posture of hands raised and extended is called "Postura orans" (orans posture) or raised hands.

In the Mass, this posture is proper to the priest alone, because he prays in persona Christi, offering the prayer on behalf of the Church.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) consistently assigns this posture to the priest during:
๐Ÿ‘The Collect
๐Ÿ‘The Prayer over the Offerings
๐Ÿ‘The Prayer after Communion
๐Ÿ‘The Lordโ€™s Prayer

The GIRM never instructs the faithful to assume the orans posture during the Our Father.

๐Ÿ“Œ In liturgical law, this silence is meaningful:
what is not prescribed is not required.
This distinction preserves the sacramental roles within the Mass.

The practice of lay people raising hands during the Lordโ€™s Prayer did not originate from the Roman Rite.

It became common in the late 20th century through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movements, such as CCRM (Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement) and CFC (Couples for Christ) and other similar faith communities in the Church.

In charismatic spirituality, raised hands are used as a sign of:
๐Ÿ“ŒOpening oneself to God
๐Ÿ“ŒSurrender
๐Ÿ“ŒPraise and trust

These gestures are meaningful and appropriate in prayer meetings, praise and worship services, and personal devotion.

However, the Holy Mass is not a charismatic prayer assembly. It is the public, sacramental worship of the Church, governed by liturgical law.

The Catholic Bishopsโ€™ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has addressed this issue pastorally.

In its guidance, the CBCP has stated in substance that:

๐Ÿ‘๐™ฝ๐š˜ ๐š™๐šŠ๐š›๐š๐š’๐šŒ๐šž๐š•๐šŠ๐š› ๐š‘๐šŠ๐š—๐š ๐š™๐š˜๐šœ๐š๐šž๐š›๐šŽ ๐š’๐šœ ๐š–๐šŠ๐š—๐š๐šŠ๐š๐šŽ๐š ๐š๐š˜๐š› ๐š๐š‘๐šŽ ๐š๐šŠ๐š’๐š๐š‘๐š๐šž๐š• ๐š๐šž๐š›๐š’๐š—๐š ๐š๐š‘๐šŽ ๐™ป๐š˜๐š›๐šโ€™๐šœ ๐™ฟ๐š›๐šŠ๐šข๐šŽ๐š›, ๐šŠ๐š—๐š ๐š—๐š˜ ๐š˜๐š—๐šŽ ๐šœ๐š‘๐š˜๐šž๐š•๐š ๐š‹๐šŽ ๐š๐š˜๐š›๐šŒ๐šŽ๐š ๐šŽ๐š’๐š๐š‘๐šŽ๐š› ๐š๐š˜ ๐š›๐šŠ๐š’๐šœ๐šŽ ๐š‘๐šŠ๐š—๐š๐šœ ๐š˜๐š› ๐š—๐š˜๐š ๐š๐š˜ ๐š›๐šŠ๐š’๐šœ๐šŽ ๐š๐š‘๐šŽ๐š–.

At the same time, the bishops emphasize:

๐Ÿ“ŒRespect for liturgical norms
๐Ÿ“ŒAvoiding division
๐Ÿ“ŒExercising charity

Thus, both postures are tolerated pastorally, but tolerance does not automatically mean liturgical ideal.

The GIRM sets out clear principles:

๐Ÿ“ŒThe orans posture is prescribed for the priest
๐Ÿ“ŒThe faithful participate vocally and interiorly
๐Ÿ“ŒExternal gestures must reflect order and theology

The GIRM does not authorize the faithful to adopt priestly gestures during the Mass.

Therefore, the most proper posture for the faithful remains: Manibus iunctis โ€” hands joined.

Outside the Mass, the orans posture can be appropriate for the faithful:
๐Ÿ‘When praying alone
๐Ÿ‘In family prayer
๐Ÿ™In house prayer meetings
๐Ÿ™In gatherings without a priest

In such settings, there is no sacramental priest offering prayers on behalf of the assembly, so expressive gestures may be freely used.

In many Protestant communities, raised hands during communal prayer are common because:

โŽThere is no sacramental priesthood
โŽMany hold to the idea of a universal self-understood priesthood
โŽThe congregation collectively assumes intercessory gestures

The Catholic Church, however, maintains a distinct ministerial priesthood, which is visibly expressed in the liturgy through posture and gesture.

It is crucial to understand:

๐Ÿ‘This issue is disciplinary, not doctrinal

๐Ÿ‘It concerns order, not holiness

๐Ÿ‘It regulates public worship, not personal devotion

The Church is not harsh or legalistic about hand gestures.

She simply asks for order, clarity, and unity in the Mass.

Whether hands are raised or folded, one truth remains unshaken:

๐Ÿ™God hears our prayers.
๐Ÿ™Grace does not depend on posture.
๐Ÿ™Faith is not measured by gestures.
๐Ÿ™Charity is greater than uniformity.

Yet because the Mass is not private prayer, Catholics are invited to follow the Churchโ€™s discipline out of love and obedience, not fear.

The most proper posture for the faithful during the Lordโ€™s Prayer in Mass is hands joined (manibus iunctis), respecting the orans posture as proper to the priest.

At the same time, the Church allows pastoral flexibility and calls for charity.

Let us choose:
๐Ÿ‘Reverence over preference
๐Ÿ‘Unity over insistence
๐Ÿ‘Obedience over argument

For in the end, it is not the position of our hands
but the humility of our heartsโ€”
that lifts our prayer to the Father. โœ๏ธ

"In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; In these last days, he has spoken to us through the son."

A tradition of bringing the Baby Jesus image to homes, meaning "Peace be with you" and symbolizing Christ's presence, blessings, and hope.

โ€œIโ€™d rather die than let go of the Eucharist.โ€
St.Tarcisius

This conviction came alive in our Pax Tecum journey, where faith was not only professed but lived. With time, effort, and sacrifice, the Ministry of Altar Servers walked across the thirteen chapels of St. Blaise Parish, carrying the Baby Jesus into every home. A love that refuses to let go of Christ whether in the Eucharist we adore or in the humble image we bring to families. Through weariness and joy, we learned that true peace is born when we give ourselves fully to God and to his people.
