Are you up for His coming?
A Reflection
SPGB
“Remember, therefore, how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore, if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.” -Revelation 3:3 NKJV
All the ‘firsts’ that we have received in life are precious and monumental, but as time passes, they seem to have lost our attention for some reason.
When it comes to our relationship with God, our first love for Him matters more than anything else. Our first awesome experiences in His presence, illuminations on His Word, and the joy in the ministry made us like the happiest person in this world—as in nothing could ever satisfy us but He alone.
Yet, like the church in Sardis, we may have gone ‘dead,’ almost never having encountered God. We may have forgotten the first tastes of His grace because of life’s distractions and the glory of the world many of us have been hooked into, which in reality is just ‘make believe.’ We may have also lost our grip on the things we valued most in our early walk with God yet still believe we are fine; we are the same Christians as before, attending church, praying, and giving our offering regularly.
With this mindset we have become so delusional and overconfident. It is truly pitiful of us!
That is why Christ in His letter to the church at Sardis warned that they should hold fast to the most important things in life as Christians. They should also be watchful, for He will come like a thief who never bothers to inform when to arrive.
The Lord does not want us to be surprised at His coming. He wants us prepared and spiritually sound when He comes back. He wants us in waiting mode—dressed up in purity like a virgin, joyfully excited to meet her bridegroom. He wants us to be spiritually awake!
This year, consider pondering on how we have become as believers now. Let us look at the past not to dwell on it but to learn from the many lessons we could get from experiences. Let us also look to the future to get ready for whatever it brings us. And most importantly, let us look unto our Savior, Jesus Christ, who at any time from now may arrive!
