Today, on this blessed Feast of Maria Auxiliadora, Mary Help of Christians, Patroness of the Prelature of Marawi, we gathered not only as a community of faith, but as a people who continue to carry wounds, memories, and hope.
This year’s celebration becomes even more meaningful as it coincides with Pentecost Sunday, the feast of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit who renews, heals, strengthens, and sends forth.
In his homily, Bishop Edwin recalled that it has already been nine years since the Cathedral in Marawi City last celebrated this feast within its walls. The Marawi Siege, which began on the eve of the fiesta, left deep scars of trauma and pain in the hearts of many.
Yet today, amidst those painful memories, faith still gathers us together.
Bishop Edwin reminded us that Mary is truly a gift of the Holy Spirit to us, a mother who remains beside her wounded children, a source of comfort and courage, our Help as Christians.
Indeed, though scarred by the past, the people of Marawi continue to rise in faith, hope, healing, and peace through the loving presence of God and the maternal care of Maria Auxiliadora.
