Hello Ignacian Marian Ritarians!
It's October! It's the Month of our Blessed Mother - It's the Month of the Holy Rosary and Mission.
The Holy Father has invited all the faithful of the world to pray the Rosary everyday during this entire month, joining in communion and in penitence as the people of God, to ask the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Michael the Archangel to protect the Church from the Devil, who always seeks to separate us from God and from each other. This is a confirmation that our daily practice of praying the Holy Rosary as Ritarians is more than just a simple devotion or mere tradition. It has ecclesial and ascetical dimensions too.
The Holy Rosary is the “epitome of the whole Gospel” (Pope Paul VI). This is while occupying the senses with the “praying of the beads” the one who prays the rosary prayerfully reflects, meditates, on the mysteries of Christ’s life. These mysteries are taken from the Gospel, and from the Churches own reflection on the Gospel down through the centuries―especially with respect to the role of the Blessed Virgin. She is the Woman (Gen. 3:15) from whom Christ took His human nature, as well as the Woman who cooperated in His Redemptive mission to its completion (John 19:26-27).
The purpose of the Holy Rosary, therefore, is a deeper understanding of all the mysteries concerning Christ. A mystery is something divine, because the Person associated with it is divine. Human reflection alone reaches a limit of understanding. However, by seeking God in what we can know by prayerful reflection, we dispose ourselves to His grace and to a deeper understanding of the truths of the Faith, and of ourselves in the light of them.
Moreover, October is also celebrated as the Mission Month, beginning with the feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, the patroness of Mission. Pope Frances urges us to stir up that spirit of faith within each one of us, reminding us that the Church is missionary by nature. This is her deep reality, this is our foremost vocation – to bring people to Jesus. “We do not have a product to sell; but, a life to communicate: who is God, His divine life, his merciful love, his holiness” (Pope Francis).
St. Paul, the greatest of missionaries, spent his life bringing the good news of the Lord Jesus to those far away, and to those near at hand.
As one Ignacian, Ritarian, Marian Family, we are also called to be missionaries of our time. We are challenged to spend our life worthily in bringing the love, goodness and truth of God to the world filled with hatred, violence and lies. Let us journey together with Mary and make this month true to its celebration through our participation and commitment to the Church’s mission and to Christ, our Lord.
