Why do people resist change even though they know it will help?

1. We are stubborn - (we are so focused on what we hope to keep rather than what we can get.)

2. We are trapped - (Our refusal to let go entraps us. Holding on to our pride, hobbies, preferences, or any other thing can keep us from becoming a better person.)

3. We are comfortable - (We become so comfortable to our standard of living and it keeps us from being the best that we can be.)

4. We are afraid - (Fear of the unknown is the primary reason why people don't want to change. Some think following Jesus will make them fanatic or at the very least, socially awkward.)

5. Because change hurts - (Leaving our comfort zone will cause a ripple effect that carries a price. To put it simply, it is hard to change even if we know it is for the better.)

Change is necessary even when it hurts. the only question that remains is what hurts most: staying where you are or getting where you want to be?

(adapted from Ptr. Ed Stetzer's preaching, Transformation: The change we need)
