Pope Leo celebrates Mass for the Jubilee of Catechists.

In his homily, the Pope said that a catechist proclaims the Word through their life, whether they are our parents or a minister on behalf of the Church.

“We have all been taught to believe through the witness of those who believed before us,” Pope Leo said.

“From childhood, adolescence, youth, adulthood, and even old age, catechists accompany us in our faith, sharing in this lifelong journey.”

SEPTEMBER 28 | MEMORIAL OF SAINT LORENZO RUIZ AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS (San Lorenzo Ruiz at mga Kasama)

San Lorenzo was a devoted husband and father of three children in the Philippines during the 17th century. After he was unjustly accused of murder, he fled with Christian missionaries to Japan where he was tortured for faith and died professing: "I shall die for God, and for him I would give many thousands of lives if I had them."

Grant us, we pray, Lord God, the same perseverance shown by your Martyrs Saint Lawrence Ruiz and his companions in serving you and their neighbor, since those persecuted for the sake of righteousness are blessed in your Kingdom.
