Last November, Luzon was hit by Super Typhoon Uwan. The community where Seaside Vineyard is located was badly affected. For days, fishing—their main source of income—was dangerous.
We applied for relief goods from Convoy of Hope, a faith-based humanitarian and disaster relief organization, so we could help the affected families. At first, we considered requesting help for the 30 families in our church, but we felt led to include others so they could also be blessed. We requested support for 70 families, and our request was granted. We hoped the goods would arrive soon, but we didn’t hear from them again.
To our surprise, we later received a call that the relief goods would be delivered. On March 14, we distributed 70 bags to families. Each bag contained groceries, Manna Rice (a good source of protein, carbohydrates, and key nutrients for anyone over the age of one), two large tarps, five containers with filters, and five solar lanterns with phone chargers.
We did not distribute the containers with filters and the phone chargers yet. Instead, we plan to build a center where these can be placed, so the community can access clean drinking water and charge their phones during power outages or typhoons. These containers are especially important since the community does not have a reliable source of clean drinking water.
The families were grateful to receive the goods, many saying, “Better late than never.” From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Convoy of Hope and God richly bless you.
