A PRAYERFUL STATEMENT FOR SENATE ACCOUNTABILITY
“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.“
Micah 6:8
The Kalipunan ng Kristiyanong Kabataan sa Pilipinas (KKKP) calls the Senate to take accountability in processing the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and the arrest of Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
To uphold truth and justice is an act of faithful stewardship and moral responsibility before God and the Filipino people. In these crucial times, silence in the face of injustice and delay in the pursuit of accountability only deepen the wounds of corruption, abuse of power, and impunity within our nation. As people of faith, we affirm that public office is a sacred trust, not a privilege beyond scrutiny nor a shield from accountability.
We condemn the dramatic events that continue to unfold as desperate attempts by members of the ruling elite to evade accountability while the very institutions of the state remain implicated in countless human rights violations against the Filipino people. It is deeply abhorrent that these political maneuvers and spectacles further stall the long-overdue impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte and distract the nation from the urgent demand for truth and justice. These actions do not strengthen democracy; rather, they expose the deep crisis of a system that protects the powerful while the poor and marginalized continue to suffer. .
As Christians, we cannot remain indifferent while injustice persists and accountability is treated as optional for those in power. The recent happenings do not only undermine democratic institutions and erode public trust—they reveal the decaying and oppressive nature of a system marked by corruption, political dynasties, violence, and exploitation. We lament how the cries of victims of human rights abuses, extrajudicial violence, poverty, and systemic neglect are too often silenced in favor of political survival and elite interests.
The Gospel calls us to stand with truth and with the oppressed. Throughout Scripture, God consistently sides with the poor, the persecuted, and those denied justice. Therefore, our call for accountability is not rooted in political convenience nor partisan allegiance, but in our faithful commitment to righteousness, compassion, and the dignity of every human being created in the image of God. Genuine peace cannot exist where injustice is tolerated, and reconciliation cannot flourish without truth.
The KKKP therefore urges the Senate to fulfill its constitutional and moral duty with courage, impartiality, and sincerity. Let the impeachment process proceed without obstruction, manipulation, or delay. Let all allegations be examined with fairness and transparency, and let every public official be held accountable under the rule of law.
As people of faith, let us continue to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God as we recognize the injustices endured by the oppressed throughout history and even today. May the life and witness of Christ inspire us to become co-workers and march in the struggle for genuine peace, justice, and truth, and to collectively transform a system that perpetuates exploitation, violence, and inequality. For there can be no lasting peace without justice, and no true democracy without accountability.
