“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”

Basketball teaches us many valuable lessons—discipline, teamwork, endurance, and perseverance. We spend time practicing our shooting, dribbling, defense, and conditioning because we want to become better players.
Paul reminds Timothy that while physical training is valuable, there is something even more important: training ourselves to become godly. The condition of our heart matters more than our performance on the court.
