Bishop Acdal Conducts Episcopal Visits in Southwest Cagayan-Kalinga-Apayao District Churches

CAGAYAN — May 24, 2026 — Bishop Rodel M. Acdal conducted a series of episcopal visits to local churches within the Southwest Cagayan-Kalinga-Apayao District (SWCKAD) on May 24, 2026, accompanied by District Superintendent Rev. Emerson Pattung.

The episcopal visits included Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Rizal, Cagayan; Bagumbayan United Methodist Church in Tuao, Cagayan; and Tuao United Methodist Church in Tuao, Cagayan.

During the visits, Bishop Acdal shared messages of faith, hope, and encouragement, inspiring church members to remain steadfast in their commitment to Christ and the mission of the Church. The congregations warmly welcomed the bishop and district superintendent, expressing gratitude for their leadership, pastoral care, and support.

The episcopal visits served as a meaningful opportunity for worship, fellowship, and strengthening the connection between local churches and the wider ministry of The United Methodist Church. Through these gatherings, church members were reminded of their calling to make disciples of Jesus Christ and to continue serving their communities with faith and love.

The Southwest Cagayan-Kalinga-Apayao District celebrates these visits as a reaffirmation of the Church’s unity and shared commitment to advancing God’s mission throughout the region.

Reflection on Genesis 1:31–2:4a

The first time someone told me that there was not one Creation story in Genesis but two, I was incredulous. How could that be? The Bible is the story of God and God’s people. I had always believed that the Bible was “true,” that every word in it was just as God intended it to be. If there were two different versions of Creation, how could both be true? But as I read and reread the first two chapters, it was unmistakable. Genesis 2:4 marks the end of one story and the beginning of another. And they are markedly different.

*Strangely Warmed: NWPAC Conducts Annual Conference-Wide Revival Gathering*

STA. LUCIA, ILOCOS SUR — On May 23, 2026, the Northwest Philippines Annual Conference (NWPAC) of The United Methodist Church gathered 573 delegates representing 52 local churches at the Gov. Titong Singson Memorial Auditorium for its annual conference-wide revival gathering, titled "Gil-ayab 2026."

Spearheaded by the NWPAC Young Adults in close partnership with the conference youth and Church workers, the event drew representation across four districts: thirty (30) local churches and 315 delegates from Ilocos Sur District (ISD), 18 churches and 172 delegates from Ilocos Norte District (IND), all the 4 churches of Northern Ilocos Mission District (NIMD) were present with 85 delegates and the Superintendent of the recently established Europe Mission District (EMD).

Anchored on the theme "Strangely Warmed," the revival drew deep theological inspiration from John Wesley’s historic Aldersgate experience and the transformative journey of the Emmaus Walk. The gathering highlighted prevenient grace as its core concept, emphasizing God's enduring love that actively operates in human lives long before it is consciously recognized. By centering on this foundation, Gil-ayab 2026 sought to achieve a three-fold purpose for its delegates: to foster a deep spiritual realignment that reveals God's active presence during seasons of spiritual blindness, to facilitate a heart renewal that transitions abstract beliefs into active discipleship, and to spark a holistic revival empowering attendees to offer their spiritual lives as a living sacrifice.

The day's program was structured as a two-part activity designed to engage both the creative expression and contemplative devotion of the delegates. The morning session opened with a vibrant showcase of talents, providing an inspiring platform for participants from ISD, IND, NIMD, and EMD to express their faith through music. In the afternoon, the atmosphere shifted into a deeply reverent, high-energy revival worship service, where hundreds of attendees engaged in unified prayer and worship, successfully igniting the "strangely warmed" heart experience.

The seamless ex*****on of this large-scale conference was made possible through strong ecumenical partnerships, committed volunteers, and local government support.

The NWPAC leadership extends its profound gratitude and special thanks to Rev. Matt Anthony Antonio of Tarlac Philippines Annual Conference, who served as the revivalist of the event, the Local Government Unit of Sta. Lucia, through the leadership of Mayor Joseph Simon Valdez, for their invaluable hospitality and assistance. Deep appreciation is likewise expressed to the St. Lucy the Martyr Parish Church community and Rev. Fr. Eryll Cordero for their generous solidarity, alongside the dedicated sponsors, ministry partners, and selfless volunteers who labored behind the scenes to bring the plans of this spiritual gathering into a solid gathering.

Gil-ayab 2026 may have been a one-day gathering, but the ultimate prayer is for the fire lit here to burn continuously. May it spark a movement where lives are changed and the world is transformed by the disciples who committed and recommitted their lives to Jesus Christ.

All glory and honor belong to the one true God who has been walking with us all along.

Reflection on Genesis 1:1–2:4a

When God began to create the heavens and the earth, the earth was complete chaos. God began to move, bringing order to the chaos, life out of nothingness, light out of darkness. Our first glimpse of God in the scriptural record is a creative movement. God’s nature is to create. From that creative energy spills forth light and life. Everything that ever was, everything that is, and everything that will be comes from God’s presence in the midst of chaos.

Reflection on John 7:37-39

Today’s passage takes us to the Feast of Tabernacles, the traditional time when the Jews erected temporary shelters of branches and palm leaves. The idea was to live inside these makeshift structures for one week and contemplate God’s goodness during their ancestors’ nomadic wanderings. During those 40 years, the Israelites often found themselves thirsty but without a source of water from which to drink. Every time, God always miraculously provided the water they desperately needed.
