๐๐ป๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ: Yes, women are used by God to teach, prophesy, and proclaim the Gospel in Scripture. How that applies in the local church depends on how you interpret a few key passages.
Churches land in different places on this, so letโs look at what the Bible actually says:
๐๐๐ EXAMPLES OF WOMEN MINISTERING IN SCRIPTURE
๐ Old Testament
Miriam - prophetess who led worship Exodus 15:20
Deborah - prophetess + judge who led Israel Judges 4-5
Huldah - prophetess consulted by kings 2 Kings 22:14
๐ New Testament
Anna - prophetess who proclaimed Jesus in the temple Luke 2:36-38
The 4 daughters of Philip - prophets Acts 21:9
Priscilla - taught Apollos with Aquila Acts 18:26. She corrected theology.
Phoebe - deacon and โpatronโ of the church Romans 16:1-2
Junia - called โoutstanding among the apostlesโ Romans 16:7
Women at Pentecost - prophesied Acts 2:17-18
Women praying and prophesying in church 1 Corinthians 11:5 - Paul assumes they do it, then gives instructions on how
โ๏ธ So, women clearly spoke, taught, prophesied, and led in Godโs people.
๐ค THE PASSAGES PEOPLE DISCUSS
1 Corinthians 14:34-35 โwomen should be silent in the churchesโ
๐ช๐๐๐๐๐๐: disorder in Corinth. Some read this as โno public speaking at all.โ Others read it as โno disruptive questioning during the serviceโ because in v.5 women were already praying/prophesying.
1 Timothy 2:11-14 โI do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a manโ
๐ช๐๐๐๐๐๐: Ephesus had false teaching. Paul gives qualifications for overseers/elders in chapter 3.
Interpretation 1: This is a timeless pattern for church leadership/eldership.
Interpretation 2: This addressed a specific problem in Ephesus with false teachers.
Galatians 3:28 โThere is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesusโ
About value and access to salvation. Doesnโt erase roles, but shows equal worth.

1๏ธโฃ Complementarian
Men and women are equal in value, but God designed men for eldership/pastoral authority in the local church. Women can teach women, children, do evangelism, prophesy, but not serve as senior pastor/elder.

2๏ธโฃ Egalitarian
Men and women are equal in value and in ministry roles. Spiritual gifts determine roles, not gender. Women can be pastors, elders, preachers.
Key texts: Acts 2, Romans 16, Gal 3:28, examples of Priscilla/Deborah
3๏ธโฃ Middle/Soft Complementarian
Women can preach and teach, but not hold the primary governing authority of elder. Depends on gifting and church context.
โ๏ธ WHAT EVERYONE AGREES ON?
โ๏ธ Women are called and gifted by the Holy Spirit 1 Cor 12:7-11
โ๏ธ Women evangelized - Samaritan woman, women at the tomb were first to preach โHe is risenโ John 4, Matt 28
โ๏ธ Value is equal - Gal 3:28
We must interpret Scripture carefully and in context - not pick verses to prove a point

๐ Questions to ask your church:
โ๏ธ What does โauthorityโ and โteachingโ mean in our context?
โ๏ธ What are the gifts God has clearly given to the women in our church?
โ๏ธ How can we obey all of Scripture without silencing half the body?
๐ Hebrews 12:2 principle: Look to Jesus. He affirmed women Luke 10:38-42, was announced by women, and entrusted the resurrection message to them first.
