The Diocese of Bago participated in the 2026 Regional Conference of the Laymen of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (LIFI) Cluster B, held from May 15 to 17, 2026 at the Parish of the Immaculate Conception in Suclaran, San Lorenzo, Guimaras.

The conference gathered a total of 39 delegates from six dioceses across Region Cluster B, including the Diocese of Iloilo, Diocese of Guimaras, Diocese of Antique, Diocese of Aklan and Capiz, Diocese of La Castellana, and the Diocese of Bago.

Representing the Diocese of Bago were LIFI diocesan officers Alex Torrefranca (Parish of La Carlota), Erol Jade Sunico (Cathedral of Bago), and Jessar Dura (Parish of Tabao).

The three-day gathering brought together Regional Cluster B officers, diocesan laymen presidents, officers, and members for mission planning, fellowship, leadership discussions, and spiritual renewal.

The first day of the conference opened with a recollection led by Rev. Fr. Jovel Gamuza, MDiv., LIFI Chaplain of the Diocese of Guimaras, together with seminarians. This was followed by an agape dinner and a solidarity and welcome night held at 7:00 PM at the Parish of the Immaculate Conception. Each participating diocese presented short performances and presentations that strengthened camaraderie and unity among the delegates.

Today, the conference began with morning worship led by Bro. Psalm Asarce, attended by all participants. This was followed by the Meeting and Plenary Session of the Regional Laymen Executive Council (RLEC) Cluster B Officers.

Updates and the President’s Report were presented by Bro. Lester Glenn Roldan, Chairperson of RLEC Cluster B, while Bro. Eliseo Senecio Jr., General Secretary of RLEC Cluster B, discussed profiling updates and proposed programs for SPTS and seminarians. Proposed amendments to the CBL, along with reports from diocesan presidents, were also presented during the plenary session.

One of the key objectives of the conference was to discuss reports and future plans for Cluster B programs while strengthening the spiritual commitment of the laypeople through collective reflection on the Church’s mission of serving God and society.

The gathering continues to uphold unity, leadership, and service as LIFI strengthens its role in the life and mission of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente.

Inspiration filled the Parish of St. Mary of Guadalupe in Valladolid as 60 dedicated teachers and educators convened for a landmark day of prayer and strategic planning.

Led by The Right Rev. Virgilio B. Amihan Jr., the gathering officially launched a transformative 5-year educational roadmap for the Diocese.

The day opened with a solemn Mass celebrated by Monsignor Juancho Omaño, establishing a spiritual foundation for a mission designed to reshape the future of the Diocese.

Rooted in the ministry of Christ, who transformed the world through the power of education, Bishop Amihan reminded our educators of their sacred calling. He emphasized that it is YOU, our lay teachers, who serve as the vital bridge between the Church and the faithful. Just as the Greatest Teacher instructed His disciples to convey the Word of God, our educators are tasked with the divine mission of transformation. You are more than instructors; you are the agents of change, translating the Church’s deep wisdom into a living, breathing reality, ensuring the Gospel is passed on to the next generation.

Reinforcing this mission, Mr. Erol Jade Sunico shared the rationale for the diocese's curriculum development plan. He emphasized that the creation of localized educational materials for Sunday School, VCS, Bible Study, and Religious Instruction, among others, is essential to maintaining our distinct IFI faith. To illustrate the long-term impact of this investment, he cited the Diocese of Surigao as a benchmark. Their recent Lakbay Aral demonstrated that Surigao’s current institutional growth is the direct result of decades of prioritized educational investment

As a core component of the Diocese of Bago 2035 ten-year strategic plan, Jessar Dura, Chairman of the Committee on Education and Nurture (CEN), laid out a visionary roadmap that positions education as the primary engine for diocesan growth.

This roadmap looks far beyond the immediate future, setting a strategic course where the next five years serve as the launchpad for the decade: 2026–2027 will focus on "Building the Foundation" through the intensive development of homegrown modules; 2028–2029 will mark a "Digital Evolution" as the ministry scales up its technological reach; and by 2030, the goal of "Full Integration" will be realized.

By investing heavily in education now, much like the successful model seen in the Diocese of Surigao, the Diocese of Bago is ensuring a sustainable, future-proofed ministry that will serve as the bedrock for the entire 2035 Strategic Vision.

The Core Educators’ Team moved immediately into action. Teachers organized into breakout groups, selected chairpersons, and coordinated digital communication hubs to begin module development. The atmosphere was one of eager focus, demonstrating that these educators are fully prepared to inspire the Diocese.

In a powerful display of unity, the educators raised their hands in a collective Pledge of Commitment, a symbolic gesture followed by the formal signing of their vows to signify their personal dedication to the mission. The signed document now stands as a testament to their promise to embrace teaching as a sacred ministry and to "become light and salt in the world."

The Diocese of Bago expresses its profound gratitude to all the teachers and educators who traveled to Valladolid to mark this historic milestone. As the 2035 Strategic Plan takes its first steps, the faithful are enjoined to keep these educators in their prayers, supporting them in their sacred mission to build the bridges of faith for the next generation.

SURIGAO CITY – The final leg of the fraternal visit took place on Day 4, strengthening the Partnership in Mission between the Dioceses of Bago and Surigao. This partnership, led by His Eminence, Most Rev. Rhee M. Timbang, Bishop of Surigao, and the Rt. Rev. Virgilio B. Amihan Jr., goes beyond distance, bringing the two dioceses together in a shared commitment to faithful witness and service.

Throughout the day’s activities, the Dioceses of Bago and Surigao strengthened their Partnership in Mission, deepening their unity through shared experiences, learning exchanges, and common worship. The encounter affirmed their shared commitment to walk together in faith and service, bringing their ministries closer in purpose and direction.

The day commenced with a soul-stirring morning worship led by Revd. Sarmiento as liturgist. Revd. Raymund Longos delivered a poignant homily centered on the friendship between the two dioceses, framing their ministerial bond not just as a formal agreement but as a brotherhood rooted in Christ’s mission and love.

The delegation gathered at the Diocesan Center for a series of high-impact presentations. Dcn. Maruja Doverte opened the session by detailing the Financial Management System Practices and its Corollary Scheme in the Diocese of Surigao, providing a roadmap for fiscal sustainability.

This was followed by a comprehensive showcase of Surigao’s holistic ministries, where they presented their innovative plans and outputs on Social Concern, the Safeguarding of Human Dignity, and their vibrant School of Music and Committee on Mission. An open forum followed, where questions were raised and thoughtfully addressed by the presenters, allowing for deeper understanding and exchange of insights.

The session concluded with a renewed sense of commitment to strengthen and adapt these best practices in the Diocese of Bago’s mission work.

In the afternoon, delegates visited the Surigao South Deanery to see ministry in action across five parishes: the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Sison. Moreover, the Lakbay Aral delegates also explored the Church of the Nativity in Sukailang, the Church of St. Mary in Magupange, the Church of the Holy Cross in Sta. Cruz, and the Church of St. Mark in Bad-as—all in Placer, Surigao del Norte.

At each stop, the delegates of the Diocese of Bago built strong connections with local parishioners and leaders, learned from their best practices, and gathered practical mission strategies to bring back and apply in the Diocese of Bago.

The spiritual journey reached its peak at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration with a closing worship led by Revd. Osmar Macana, featuring a powerful homily by Revd. Emilyn Cutamora. To mark the occasion, the Diocese of Surigao presented tokens of appreciation to each delegate. In a reciprocal gesture of unity, the Diocese of Bago presented a certificate of appreciation and an official IFI Diocese of Bago jacket to the good bishop of Surigao, a symbolic vestment representing their shared identity and the strength of their mission.

This encounter has transformed a formal partnership into a stronger alliance, ensuring that the dioceses of Bago and Surigao stand as united partners in the enduring mission of Christ.

The evening ended with a warm fellowship dinner, a joyful celebration of how two dioceses came together as one in mission, moving forward on a shared journey toward God’s kingdom. Called to worship and commissioned to serve, the two dioceses renewed their shared commitment to faithful service.
