Extroversion has been conflated with faithfulness in our youth ministry. We've effectively communicated to young people that sincerely following Jesus is synonymous with being 'fired up' for Jesus, with being excited for Jesus, as if discipleship were synonymous with cultivating an exuberant, cheerful, hurray-for-Jesus disposition similar to what we might find in a glee club or at a pep rally.
