Saint Anthony of Padua, born Fernando Martins de Bulhões in Lisbon, Portugal in 1195, was a Franciscan friar renowned for his preaching, knowledge of scripture, and miracles. He joined the Augustinian Canons but later joined the Franciscans, inspired by their missionary zeal. Known for his deep compassion, he preached extensively in Italy and France, earning him the title "Evangelical Doctor." Anthony is also celebrated as the patron saint of lost items due to a famous incident where a novice ran away, taking Anthony's valuable psalter, only to return it after a series of strange occurrences. He died at the young age of 36 in Padua, Italy, where he was buried. Canonized as a saint within a year of his death, his feast day is celebrated on June 13th.
