Campus Youth Ministry -Diocese of Dumaguete Campus Youth Ministry - Diocese of Dumaguete His Excellency Most Reverend John F. Du, D.D.

The Campus Youth Ministry - Diocese of Dumaguete is an arm of the Commission on Youth in the formation of the young especially in the public high schools within the diocese. This minsitry was entrusted to the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross, a religious institute of Diocesan Right whose mother house is in the Diocese of Bacolod. invited the group in 2008 to help minister to the need of the diocese, in particular - the students in the public high schools within his diocese.

July 4, 2008 was the first opportunity to meet the young people who will be the focus of the work of the mission team in the Diocese of Dumaguete. The first school that the mission team met was Dumaguete City High School. Fr. Pius presided the Eucharistic Celebration. He introduced the mission team to the DCHS family and explained the work that the team would be doing within the schools. The mission team was received warmly by the educative community.

The MMHC Mission Team was invited to join the Duaw Pedro Calungsod at St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral Parish. Fr. Roland Omatang planned to introduce the mission team to the youth of the diocese and for the mission team to get to know the youth up close as well as see and experience the programs and activities that the Commission on Youth provide the youth. The mission team participated in the different activities and helped out in whatever way they can.

The Parish of St. Augustine of Hippo entrusted to the mission team the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the two schools under its jurisdiction namely: Bacong High School and San Miguel National High School. The mission team started its work in these two schools on August 1, 2008. The mass was celebrated during the commemoration of Linggo ng Lahi.

The first recruitment of members for the Campus Youth Ministry happened at Negros Oriental High School (NOHS) on August 21, 2008. The recruitment of members was done in its multi-purpose center. The students invited for the recuitment talk were 3rd and 4th year students.

After NOHS school after school, members of the mission team began to fan out to the different schools within Dumaguete City and the Municipality of Bacong.

The work in different schools of the Division of Negros Oriental Provincial Schools was supported by Dra. Milagros Velez, Superintendent. She was formerly the Superintendent of the Division of Dumaguete City Schools. Working with the head of the division and the administrators of the schools is an important key in ensuring the implementation of the programs and activities of the CYM.

The activity was a kick-off celebration for the Campus Youth Ministry. It coincided with the celebration of birthday of Mother Mary. This was attended by representatives of the different public high schools in the Division of Dumaguete City Schools.

This activity was organized to launch the CYM in the Division of Negros Oriental Provincial Schools. Attended by nearby schools from Dauin to San Jose, the activity was held at Negros Oriental High School, Dumaguete City. Dra. Milagros Velez is already the new Division Superintendent for provincial schools. Bishop John Du, D.D., Bishop of Dumaguete, presided the Eucharistic celebration. This is also in celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

After a few days, the mission team was entrusted with facilitating the recollection of the whole third year students of Negros Oriental High School. For each day in one week, batch after batch of students went to the formation center located inside the compound of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Dumaguete City.

The establishment of the Campus Youth Ministry in every school would demand in-house volunteers who will help in the implementation of the programs and activities as well as follow up the members in each school chapter. These lay volunteers are teachers in their respective school and are in touch with their students 8 hours in a day. They also act as liason between the student and school administrators and they also become advisers to the members.
