SUNDAY SPARK: A SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION BY SOCCOMM CORRESPONDENTS
PENTECOST SUNDAY
Gospel (John 20:19-23)
โIn life, we are facing different challenges, difficulties and hardships, and we thought that fear could protect us against these odds, but the truth is, it only controls us in a way that we cannot move forward. God knows usโ God knows what we are facing. This day reminds us, that even when we feel stuck, in doubt, or even discouraged, Christโs presence is not blocked by failures, fears and any closed doors.
When God entered the door, He greeted them with a Peace, but not disappointment. The disciples might failed Him, but His everlasting love and mercy rise above all. In our world nowadays, itโs hard to easily forgive people, specially when betrayal comes from your closest friends and family. But, we must remember that if God could forgive, we should too. This reminds us that Godโs grace often comes from before our personal interest, readiness, and doubt.
As Jesus told them โAs father has sent me, and so I sent youโ, He doesnโt want us to hide anymoreโ It is a mission. He wants us to stand with no fear, stand with courage and stand with God in our hearts. We should know our purpose despite of any hindrances we might face along the way. Faith is not only made for our own solace and comfort, it was given to us, to help us grow in Godโs love and mission. We are called to be an instrument of God, let go of the burdens in our heart. If you feel that youโre not enough, think of it, whatโs your main purpose in life? Are you satisfied with the life you are living? Maybe we are just living but not following our core, maybe we are living but not fulfilled. So know that we are in a mission, we are born with a purpose, we are here because God has something prepared for us, just so you know, life has a greatest purpose and worth living. The โPeace be with youโ, isnโt just a casual greeting for His disciples, but it is a restoration. Jesus meets our terror, guilt, and doubt with unconditional peace. He transforms their fear into joy. It reminds us that no matter how sinful we are, there is still God who knows us deeply, and forgive us in countless times. We are not perfect, but once we commit a sin, we must learn, and forgive ourselves and keep going with faith and dignity.
