Thursday of the 20th Week in Ordinary Time

"Many are invited but few are chosen."

In today's Gospel, the king gave a wedding feast for his son:

* King - the God who invites His people to come to Him;
* Invited guests - the Word of God was first preached among the Jews;
* Whoever you find - God's love is universal. It is for everyone;
* Wedding garment - Change of Heart; a total "Yes"
to God.

When God invites us to be cleansed and renewed by the Holy Spirit, we should be arraigned in our wedding garment to meet Him.

We pray that we continue to live our "Yes" to God's invitation.

Wednesday of the 20th Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Gospel, the Parable of the Landowner and the Laborers whom the landowner paid the same daily wage whether they started work at dawn, 9:00 AM, noon, 3:00 PM, or 5:00 PM, focuses on the Heart of God.

Even when we are tired and/or losing hope, God fixes His eyes on each of us all the time. He tenderly watches over us.

God never forgets. He is merciful and compassionate.

He is generous. Thus, the last will be the first and the first will be the last.

We pray that God's grace will be upon us - giving freely to all, regardless of effort.

"But many who are first will be last, and the last will be the first."

In both the Reading and the Gospel, we are reminded that true riches and life are found in following Jesus which most of the time mean humility. We have to let go of worldly attachments and not depend solely on ourselves but on God's grace.

True reward is in God's kingdom in heaven.

Teacher, what must I do to gain eternal life?
Go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.
When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Earthly possessions distract us from God's love. We find it hard to let go of material possessions.

We pray to have the courage to release what keeps us from God's love; to trust and surrender to God; to find deeper peace, joy, and fullness of life in Christ.

Theme: "How Catholic are We?"

The following passages in today's Readings and Gospel show that the Kingdom of God is open to all who accept Him in faith regardless of their nationality or background:

"My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples."
"O God, let all the nations praise you."
"For God delivered all to disobedience, that He might have mercy upon all."
"Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters."

Lord, we pray...teach us to be sensitive, generous, and merciful like you to other people. Let us show sympathy, go out of our comfort zone, and put ourselves in the shoes of the other person.

"Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate."

As Catholics, we share the Gospel, whether married, single, consecrated, or ordained.

We pray for married couples that they may stay committed to each other despite life's challenges and hardships.

We pray for those who dedicated themselves fully to God's service.

We pray that we stay faithful to God in our different callings.

Today, we also remember St. Maximilian Kolbe, priest and martyr. May we imitate his selfless sacrifice for others.

"Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?"
"I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times."

When we forgive others, it is not just for their benefit, but also for our own benefit. Our hearts become free from the weight of bitterness and anger. It opens us to healing and peace inside.

Today, we pray for the grace of mercy from our Lord and also to be forgiving and merciful to others as well.
